{"id":325887,"date":"2018-08-15T16:48:29","date_gmt":"2018-08-15T23:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=325887"},"modified":"2018-08-15T16:48:29","modified_gmt":"2018-08-15T23:48:29","slug":"kai-bathurst-verbally-commits-to-indiana-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kai-bathurst-verbally-commits-to-indiana-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Kai Bathurst Verbally Commits to Indiana University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Indiana University has recently gained a new member for the class of 2023 in<strong>\u00a0Christian &#8220;<\/strong><strong>Kai&#8221; Bathurst<\/strong>, who has given his verbal commitment to swim for the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n<p>A native of\u00a0Redondo Beach, Calif., Bathurst does his club swimming with Beach Cities Swimming where he is a five-time Junior National qualifier.\u00a0The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American recently wrapped up a successful long course season, notching two personal bests in the 200 free and 400 free at Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Also competing for Mira Costa High School, Bathurst finished second in the 200 free (1:38.83) and sixth in the 100 free (46.38) at the 2018 California CIF Central Section Division 2 Championships.\u00a0As a sophomore in 2017, he finished third in the 200 free (1:40.10) and tenth in the 100 fly (50.69) at the same meet.<\/p>\n<p>He told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #de2c2c;\"><strong>&#8220;I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Indiana University. I\u2019d like to thank my family, coaches and friends for their support!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 free &#8211; 45.75<\/li>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:38.17<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 4:29.55<\/li>\n<li>100 fly &#8211; 49.72<\/li>\n<li>200 fly &#8211; 1:48.92<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bathurst will provide more depth to an already loaded Hoosier mid-distance squad.
