MIAMI, Florida, November 3.THE FIU swimming and diving team came out victorious, 154.50-88.50, against the North Florida Ospreys Saturday morning at the Biscayne Bay Aquatics Center in Miami, Fla.<\/p>\n
“The ladies battled well today,” FIU Head Coach Randy Horner said. “We didn't swim very fast, but we competed well.”<\/p>\n
The Panthers opened the meet with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of Sonia Perez, Klara Andersson, Marina Ribi and Johanna Gustafsdottir earned a quick 11 points with a finals time of 3:59.89.
\nIn the 200 Free, the Panthers secured the top three spots in the race with Ribi touching the wall at 1:56.18 for first place. Danielle Meara came in a close second at 1:56.61 with Colleen Quinn taking third with a time of 1:59.72.<\/p>\n
The Panthers also swept the top four spots in the 50 Free with Andersson (24.82) finishing first, Valeriia Popova (25.07) second, Kelly Grace (25.42) third and Becky Wilde (25.67) fourth. FIU took 18-of-19 possible points in the event. <\/p>\n
In the seventh event of the meet, Melissa Moreno came out victorious, touching in with a time of 2:08.72 in the 200 Fly. Wilde followed her teammate by winning the 100 Free with a time of 55.05, .11 seconds ahead of fellow Panther Mary Boucher (55.16).<\/p>\n
Perez continued her hot start to the season with a win in the 200 Back. She won with a commanding seven-second lead over her teammate, Meara. Perez touched in at 2:04.12, while Meara finished second with a time of 2:11.79. Perez's time was the fastest by any Panther this season. <\/p>\n
Gustafsdottir earned another nine points for her team after touching the wall with a finals time of 5:04.96 in the 500 Free. <\/p>\n
FIU diver Sabrina Beaupre swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 291.51 and 286.35, respectively. Beaupre's score in the 3-meter was her highest of the season. <\/p>\n
The meet ended the same way it began, with a relay win. Andersson, Albright, Perez and Gustafsdottir took the gold in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:35.86.<\/p>\n
The Panthers return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 10, when they travel to Lakeland, Fla., to take on the Florida Southern Mocs at 11:00 a.m., ET.<\/p>\n
