Ferguson replaces <strong>Nikki Kett<\/strong>, who left the program earlier this summer to become an assistant coach at the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson comes to Penn after spending last year at Marshall University. Prior to that, she spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Penn State University.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kaitlyn is a perfect fit for us,&#8221; said Schnur, who enters his 19th season as Penn&#8217;s head coach in 2018-19. &#8220;Her experience recruiting and coaching at Penn State and Marshall, as well as her terrific work with their sprint groups, make her an ideal person to add to our staff here at Penn. I&#8217;m thrilled to see what the future holds for our student-athletes who will be lucky enough to work with her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very excited to be joining the Penn Swimming and Diving family,&#8221; said Ferguson. &#8220;The high standard of academics and athletics that are tradition at Penn are two things I value immensely. I&#8217;d like to thank Coach Schnur for offering me this opportunity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Marshall finished third at the Conference USA Championships last year, with an individual champion in the 200 IM. During Ferguson&#8217;s three years as an assistant at Penn State, the Nittany Lions enjoyed one top-20 NCAA finish and another in the top 25. Penn State also garnered multiple NCAA first-team All-America honors and an individual Big Ten champion during that time.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson, who grew up in Mamaroneck, N.Y. began her coaching career with the Badger Swim Club near her hometown in Larchmont. While working with the elite senior team, she coached a variety of swimmers ranging from sectional qualifiers to Olympic Trials qualifiers. She served as head coach for the Badger Swim Club at USA Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>As a swimmer, Ferguson was a two-time US Olympic Trials qualifier (2004, 2008) in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Her highest Olympic Trials finish was 17th. During her collegiate career, Ferguson swam for four years at Penn State and was a member of the Nittany Lions&#8217; 2006 Big Ten championship team. Ferguson also was an NCAA Championships qualifier and earned honorable mention All-America honors.
