POTSDAM, New York, November 2.SENIOR Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) and freshman Nick Short (Endwell, NY) each won a pair of events as the Clarkson University Swim team split a dual meet against St. Lawrence Friday afternoon, with the men taking a 128-71 victory and the women falling to the Saints 134.5-66.5 at Clarkson's Fuller Pool.<\/p>\n
The Golden Knights will have a quick turnaround as they will compete against Oswego State at 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, again at Fuller Pool.<\/p>\n
Both Short and Telesca showed early on that they would be forces in the pool for the Knights as the duo teamed with Stephen Maxwell (Latham, NY) and Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY) to win the 200 medley relay by five seconds. Short came right back to win the 200 freestyle (2:05.97) and coupled wthat with a victory in the 100 butterfly (1:03.57) later on, while Telesca earned wins in the sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 freestyle in 25.90 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 56.32 seconds.<\/p>\n
Ketcham, too, won a pair of events, winning the 200 individual medley (2:25.76) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.71), but he didn't gain any points for Clarkson in the latter race since he swam it as an exhibition.<\/p>\n
Others winning individual events for Clarkson were Tyler Nichols (Spencerport, NY), who won the 100 backstroke (1:08.35) and Sean Parnett (Clifton Park, NY), who hit the pad first in the 400 freestyle (4:40.50). Parnett was also part of the best timed 200 freestyle relay along with Raymond Bailey (Galway, NY), John Krest (Macedon, NY) and Sam Zagrobelny (East Aurora, NY), which swam the race in 1:47.48, but the points were unclaimed as again the event was swam as an exhibition by the Knights.<\/p>\n
