The Dutch swept the gold medals in the European Championships open water 10K swims on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Sharon Van Rouwendaal<\/strong> completed the 5K and 10K sweep, but it was the men\u2019s race that had everyone talking.<\/p>\n After that long, intense race, two competitors finished together \u2014\u00a0crossing at the same time.<\/p>\n Ferry Weertman<\/strong> of the Netherlands won the race in 1:49.28.2 in one of the closest races in history.<\/p>\n Hungary\u2019s Kristof Rasovzsky<\/strong> finished second in the exact same time \u2014\u00a0down to the tenths of a second.<\/p>\n Germany\u2019s Rob Muffels<\/strong> was third in 1:49.33, one second ahead of Marc-Antoine Olivier<\/strong> of France (1:49.34.7) and just ahead of Israel\u2019s Matan Roditi<\/strong> (1:49.36.2).<\/p>\n Italy\u2019s Matteo Furlan<\/strong> finished sixth in 1:49.36.7, followed by Britain\u2019s Jack Burnell<\/strong> (1:49.37.1 and Italy\u2019s Mario Sanzullo<\/strong> (1:49.47.4).<\/p>\n The women\u2019s race was close, but not nearly that close.<\/p>\n Van Rouwendaal won the race in 1:54.45.7, a full eight seconds ahead of Italy\u2019s Giulia Gabbriellechi<\/strong> (1:54.53.0).<\/p>\n Another Dutch swimmer made the podium as Esmee Vermeulen<\/strong> finished third in 1:55.27.4.<\/p>\n Italy\u2019s Rachel Bruni<\/strong> was fourth (1:55.40.6), followed by Germany\u2019s Finnia Wunram<\/strong> (1:56.26.5), France\u2019s Lara Grangeon<\/strong> (1:52.22.0) and Lisa Pou<\/strong> (1:57.22.8) and Italy\u2019s Arianna Bridi<\/strong> (1:57.37.1).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Dutch swept the gold medals in the European Championships open water 10K swims on Thursday.
