{"id":324952,"date":"2018-08-30T08:48:32","date_gmt":"2018-08-30T15:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=324952"},"modified":"2018-08-10T10:45:26","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T17:45:26","slug":"ken-stopkotte-to-be-sentenced-for-passing-counterfeit-20-00-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ken-stopkotte-to-be-sentenced-for-passing-counterfeit-20-00-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Ken Stopkotte To Be Sentenced For Passing Counterfeit $20.00 Bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ken Stopkotte<\/strong> (53) will be sentenced tomorrow, August 31, after pleading guilty to passing dozens of counterfeit $20 bills at a Dayton Dragons minor league baseball game in Dayton, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Stopkotte would have faced maximum sentences of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count, if he had not entered into a plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>With the plea agreement, he could still serve up to 21 months in prison and be responsible for restitution, plus face three years\u2019 supervised release after serving prison time.<\/p>\n<p>United States Secret Service officials said Stopkotte used dozens of fake $20 bills during an April 18, 2018 game and was found with 231 fake $20 bills he purchased from the dark web. He used the fake $20 bills for his ticket, food, beverages and other concessions, according to federal prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, Stopkotte &#8211; who was on federal probation after serving more than three years in prison for stealing $180,000 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2015\/04\/07\/ex-fishers-swim-coach-sentenced-stealing-churches\/25406759\/\">donations to Tennessee churches<\/a> &#8211; had fake $20s and $674.72 in genuine U.S. currency along with an iPhone, all of which was seized.<\/p>\n<p>Stopkotte has a checkered past.\u00a0 He was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fishers-ken-stopkotte-accepts-two-year-usa-swimming-ban-takes-shot-at-usa-swimming-indiana-swimming-in-farewell-speech\/\">banned from USA Swimming<\/a> for two-years and Indiana Swimming for 5-years back in 2010 for reporting false times.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, he was accused of theft but avoided charges when they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ken-stopkottes-charges-for-theft-dismissed-today-by-indiana-court-system-updated-with-stopkotte-media-statement\/\">dismissed by an Indiana
