THE year-end accolades are starting to pour in, and Missy Franklin collected a big one: She will be named one of the Women of the Year in the December issue of Glamour magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Glamour could not overlook the fact that more American women brought home medals than their male counterparts, helped no doubt by Franklin&#039;s medal haul of four gold and one bronze in London. She joins gymnast Gabby Douglas, judo player Kayla Harrison, runner Allyson Felix and soccer player Carli Lloyd in sharing the honor. All five will appear in the magazine in a collective photo.<\/p>\n<p>The gold medalists join 10 non-athletes in the list of Glamour&#039;s Women of the Year: actress Selena Gomez, photographer Annie Leibowitz, architect Zaha Hadid, actor-writer Lena Dunham, activist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, American icons Ethel and Rory Kennedy, fashion designer Jenna Lyons, activist Erin Merryn and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Franklin won&#039;t grace the December issue&#039;s cover. That honor goes to Gomez, who was photographed surrounded by red balloons. The issue hits newsstands next week. Franklin will attend the magazine&#039;s Women of the Year awards gala on Nov. 12, flying directly to New York City after competing in the Minnesota Grand Prix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, November 1.
