Hungary’s\u00a0David Verraszto\u00a0<\/strong>won his third-straight European title in the men’s 400 IM, but he had to work hard to overcome\u00a0Max Litchfield’s\u00a0<\/strong>early advantage and then hold off a strong charge by the Brit on the last 50.<\/p>\n

Verraszto put up a time of 4:10.65, followed by Litchfield in 4:11.00, good for fourth and sixth in the world this year, respectively. Spain’s\u00a0Joan Lluis Pons Ramon<\/strong> took bronze in 4:14.26.<\/p>\n

Just missing the podium were Germany’s\u00a0Johannes Hintze\u00a0<\/strong>(4:14.73) and Azerbaijan’s\u00a0Maksym Shemberev\u00a0<\/strong>(4:14.77), and they were followed by Germany’s\u00a0Jacob Heidtmann\u00a0<\/strong>(4:16.29), Russia’s\u00a0Maxim Stupin<\/strong> (4:18.41) and Portugal’s\u00a0Alexandre Joao Vital\u00a0<\/strong>(4:19.79).<\/p>\n
