The open water races at the European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, began Wednesday with the Women\u2019s 5K at Loch Lomond.<\/p>\n
Sharon Van Rouwendaal<\/strong> of the Netherlands completed a strong race and held off the competition by 16 seconds to win the championship in 56:01.<\/p>\n Germany\u2019s Leonie Antonia Beck<\/strong> took second at 56:17, followed by Italy\u2019s Rachel Bruni<\/strong> (56.49) and Arianna Bridi<\/strong> (56:58).<\/p>\n Greece\u2019s Kalliopi Araouzou<\/strong> finished fifth in 57:17, followed by Czech Republic\u2019s Alena Benesova<\/strong> (57:21), Italy\u2019s Martina De Memme<\/strong> (57:24) and France\u2019s Lara<\/strong> Grangeon<\/strong> (57:25).<\/p>\n The Men\u2019s 5K was also Wednesday at Loch Lomond.<\/p>\n Hungary\u2019s Kristof Rasovszky<\/strong> held off France\u2019s Axel Reymond<\/strong> and Logan Fontaine<\/strong> in an incredible 1-2-3 finish.<\/p>\n Rasovszky won the race in 52:38, followed by Reymond at 52:41 and Fontaine at 52:44.<\/p>\n Germany\u2019s Rob Muffels<\/strong> was fourth at 52:55, followed by Italy\u2019s Marcello Guidi<\/strong> (52:56), Pepijn Maxime Smits<\/strong> (52:59) of the Netherlands, France\u2019s Marc-Antoine<\/strong> Olivier<\/strong> (52:06) and Russia\u2019s Denis Adeev<\/strong> (53:09).<\/p>\n The 10K races are Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The open water races at the European Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, began Wednesday with the Women\u2019s 5K at Loch Lomond.
