Day 6 of the European Championships kicks off with Wednesday\u2019s preliminary session in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Many of the world\u2019s best swimmers look to battle for supremacy and clinch spots in semi-finals later in the day.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 Back<\/h3>\n

Daria Ustinova<\/strong> opened Wednesday\u2019s session with a strong prelim swim in the 200 back. The Russian finished in 2:08.89, more than a second ahead of the rest of the field.<\/p>\n

Hungary\u2019s Katalin Burian<\/strong> took the second seed in 2:10.22, followed by Russia\u2019s Anastasiia Avdeeva<\/strong> (2:201.31).
\nItaly\u2019s Margherita Panzer<\/strong> was right on their heels at 2:10.32, followed by Germany\u2019s Jenny Mensing<\/strong> (2:11.23).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Free<\/h3>\n

The men\u2019s 50 free produced a stunning result as there was a tie for the top seed in the event.<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Benjamin Proud<\/strong> and Greece\u2019s Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong> each finished the race in 21.68, enough to hold off the rest of the field by a few hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Andrea Vervain<\/strong> was close behind at 21.72, followed by Poland\u2019s Pawel Juraszek<\/strong> (21.81), Russia\u2019s Vladimir<\/strong> Morozov<\/strong> (21.85), Ukraine\u2019s Andriy Govorov<\/strong> (21.95), Jesse Peter Puts<\/strong> of the Netherlands (22.03) and Italy\u2019s Luca<\/strong> Dotto<\/strong> (22.15).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n

Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> continued her stellar meet by surging to the top seed in 50 fly. The Swedish superstar finished in 25.11, more than a half second ahead of the field.<\/p>\n

Denmark\u2019s Emilie Beckmann<\/strong> took the second seed at 25.72, followed closely by Belgium\u2019s Kimberly Buys<\/strong> at 25.80 and Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> (25.92) of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

France\u2019s Melanie Henique<\/strong> also was sub-26, taking the fifth seed in 25.94.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100 Fly<\/h3>\n

Italy\u2019s Piero Codia<\/strong> used an opening 24.05 split to take the top seed in the 100 fly at 51.59.<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s James Guy<\/strong> was close behind at 51.75, just ahead of Poland\u2019s Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> (51.84) and Hungary\u2019s Laszlo<\/strong> Cseh<\/strong> (51.92), setting up what could be a pretty intense semi-final.<\/p>\n

Hungary\u2019s Kristof Milak<\/strong> took the fifth seed in 52.04.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n

Another day, another strong performance from Russia\u2019s Yuliya Efimova<\/strong>. She took the top seed in the 50 breast, finishing in 30.20.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Arianna Castiglione<\/strong> was a tenth behind at 30.30, followed by Britain\u2019s Imogen Clark<\/strong> at 30.40.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Natalia Ivaneeva<\/strong> took the fourth seed at 30.60, while Lithuania\u2019s Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> and Britain\u2019s Sarah Vasey<\/strong> tied for the fifth seed at 30.73.<\/p>\n

Mixed 4×100 Free Relay<\/h3>\n

Just four hundredths of a second separated the top two seeds in the mixed 400 free relay.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Danila Izotov, Vladislav Grinev, Rozaliya Nasretdinova<\/strong> and Arina Openysheva<\/strong> took the top spot at 3:27.15.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands team of Kyle Stolk, Stan Pijneburg, Kira Toussaint<\/strong> and Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> were next at 3:27.19.<\/p>\n

France\u2019s Jeremy Stravius, Maxime Grousset, Margaux Fabre<\/strong> and Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> took the third seed at 3:27.40.<\/p>\n
