{"id":324453,"date":"2018-08-08T10:00:25","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T17:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=324453"},"modified":"2018-08-07T18:21:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T01:21:00","slug":"jacy-dyer-joins-virginia-tech-coaching-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jacy-dyer-joins-virginia-tech-coaching-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacy Dyer Joins Virginia Tech Coaching Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia Tech head swimming and diving coach\u00a0<strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/hokiesports.com\/coaches.aspx?rc=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener smarttag\" rev=\"111\">Sergio Lopez Miro<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0<\/strong>announces the hiring of <strong>Jacy Dyer<\/strong> as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m truly excited to have Jacy Dyer join our coaching staff,&#8221; Lopez Miro said. &#8220;From the moment I met her she left a big impression on me.\u00a0It&#8217;s great for us to add someone with both her experience as a high-level student-athlete and as a coach here in Virginia who understands recruiting in the state.\u00a0Everyone I spoke with about Jacy had glowing things to say about her work ethic, her connection with student-athletes and her drive to keep improving as a coach and leader.\u00a0She fits exactly what I was looking for on our staff and will be a great addition to Virginia Tech.\u00a0I am so excited to welcome Jacy to the Hokie family!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dyer joins the Hokies after four seasons as an assistant coach at James Madison, helping to lead the team to the 2018 CAA title as the Dukes secured nine individual medals and the 200 free relay title. During her tenure, JMU also finished as runner-up the other three seasons, capturing 20 individual and seven relay medals over the span.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am excited to be a part of such a great staff and program,&#8221; Dyer said. &#8220;I want to thank Sergio and everyone at the university for giving me this opportunity. Coaching in the ACC has been a goal of mine and to be able to do it with such a great group of coaches and athletes is amazing. The future of Hokie swimming and diving is bright; I am honored and excited to be a part of it!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to JMU, Dyer was an assistant at the University of Toledo, helping to guide the team to the 2012 MAC Championship while coaching an All-American that season. In addition to her collegiate experience, Dyer has served as camp and club coaches throughout the state of Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Dyer was an NCAA qualifier while competing for Toledo in the 1650yd free, 500yd free and 200yd free. She was a 2012 Olympic Trials qualifier and earned a world ranking of 38th in the 1500m freestyle. Dyer was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the year in 2010 and claimed 16 medals at the MAC Championship during her career including: 10 gold, three silver and three bronze.<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanon, Pennsylvania native graduated from Toledo in 2011 with a degree in psychology.
