Day 5 of the European Championships kicks off with Tuesday\u2019s preliminary session in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Many of the world\u2019s best swimmers look to battle for supremacy and clinch spots in semi-finals later in the day.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 Free<\/h3>\n

It looks as though another showdown between Sweden\u2019s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> and Denmark\u2019s Pernille Blume<\/strong> is on the docket Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The two top sprinters took the top two seeds in the 100 free on Tuesday. Blume took the top seed at 52.97. Sjostrom was second at 53.45.<\/p>\n

France\u2019s Charlotte Bonnett<\/strong> took the third seed at 53.90), followed by Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> of the Netherlands (53.96), Denmark\u2019s Signe Bro<\/strong> (54.08), Britain\u2019s Freya Anderson<\/strong> (54.27), Russia\u2019s Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> (54.46) and Italy\u2019s Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> (54.51).<\/p>\n

Anika Apostalon<\/strong>, swimming for Czech Republic, took the 10th seed at 54.61.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n

Adam Peaty<\/strong> set up an exciting final by surging to a meet record in the 50 breast. The British champion finished in 26.50, breaking his own mark of 26.62 set in 2014.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong> was second in 27.04, followed by Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> of Belarus (27.09).<\/p>\n

Serbia\u2019s Caba Siladji<\/strong> was fourth (27.12), followed by Ties Elzerman<\/strong> of the Netherlands (27.16).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> surged to the top seed in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:11.09.<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Siobhan-Marie O\u2019Connor<\/strong> took the second set at 2:11.39, followed by Switzerland\u2019s Maria Ugolkova<\/strong> (2:12.43).<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Aimee Willmott<\/strong> was fourth at 2:12.64, followed by Italy\u2019s Ilaria Cusinato<\/strong> (2:12.98) and Hungary\u2019s Zsuzsanna<\/strong> Jakabos<\/strong> (2:13.44).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 Back<\/h3>\n

Russia completed another 1-2-3 sweep, this time in the 200 backstroke, leaving another title contender out of the competition.<\/p>\n

Only two swimmers from each country qualify for the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Evgeny Rylov<\/strong> took the top seed at 1:56.67, followed by Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (1:57.07). Clement Kolesnikov<\/strong> was the odd one out, finishing third at 1:57.31.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Christian Diener<\/strong> was fourth (1:57.89), followed by Britain\u2019s Brodie Williams<\/strong> (1:58.62), and Poland\u2019s Radoslaw Kawecki<\/strong> (1:58.70).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 4×200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n

Russia cruised to the top seed in the women\u2019s 4×800 free relay to close the women\u2019s session.<\/p>\n

Anna Egorova, Valeriia Salamatina, Irina Krivonogova<\/strong> and Arina Openysheva<\/strong> took the top seed in 7:57.90, the only team to break eight minutes.<\/p>\n

Great Britain\u2019s Kathryn Greenslade, Eleanor Faulkner, Lucy Hope<\/strong> and Holly Hibbott<\/strong> took the second set at 8:00.78.
\nGermany\u2019s Reva Foos, Marie Pietruschka, Isabel Mari Gose<\/strong> and Annika Bruhn<\/strong> took third at 8:01.95.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 800 Free<\/h3>\n

Mykhaylo Romanchuk<\/strong> of the Ukraine held off the rest of the field to take the top seed in the 800 free, finishing in 7:49.96.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Gregorio Paltrinieri<\/strong> took the second seed (7:50) to lead the rest of the swimmers to make the final.<\/p>\n

Croatia\u2019s Marin Mogic<\/strong> took the third seed (7:51.78), followed by Czech Republic\u2019s Jan Micka<\/strong> (7:52.14), France\u2019s Damien Joly<\/strong> (7:52.54), Italy\u2019s Domenico Acerenza<\/strong> (7:52.80), Germany\u2019s Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> (7:53.62) and Norway\u2019s Henrik Christiansen<\/strong> (7:53.94).<\/p>\n

Austria\u2019s Felix Aubock<\/strong> took 12th (7:55.56) and missed the final.<\/p>\n
