{"id":324063,"date":"2018-08-06T10:37:18","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T17:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=324063"},"modified":"2019-06-12T09:10:40","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T16:10:40","slug":"great-britain-holds-on-for-gold-european-record-in-mixed-4x100-medley-relay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/great-britain-holds-on-for-gold-european-record-in-mixed-4x100-medley-relay\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Britain Holds on for Gold, European Record in Mixed 4&#215;100 Medley Relay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an intriguing showdown between Great Britain and Russia in the mixed 4&#215;100 medley relay, the countries put swimmers of opposite genders on each stroke.\u00a0<strong>Georgia Davies\u00a0<\/strong>led off in 59.12, leaving her more than six seconds behind\u00a0<strong>Kliment Kolesnikov<\/strong>, only for\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>to out-split\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>by almost eight seconds, 57.27 to 1:05.07.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Guy\u00a0<\/strong>extended the British lead with a 50.96 fly split, leaving it up to 17-year-old\u00a0<strong>Freya Anderson\u00a0<\/strong>to hold off Russian anchor\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>, the top-ranked swimmer in the world this year in the 100 free. Anderson ended up coming through with a 52.83 split, and Britain finished in 3:40.18, the second-fastest time in history and under the previous European record of 3:41.56 set by Britain at last year&#8217;s World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s Kolesnikov, Efimova,\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> and Morozov finished second in 3:42.71. Notably, Kolesnikov led off in 52.51, under his 100 back world junior record of 52.53 set in the individual final earlier in the night and the same time as\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>world-leading mark.
