Great Britain ended up setting a European record in that mixed medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Read below for an event-by-event recap of the session.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2018-european-championships-day-four-day-4-international-elite-2018-08-03.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>FULL RESULTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 Fly FINAL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Boglarka Kapas<\/strong>\u00a0was behind the leaders for the first 150 meters in the women&#8217;s 200 fly final, but she stormed home in 32.92 over the final 50 meters to come into the wall first at 2:07.13. That swim moved Kapas into No. 5 in the world rankings and was a nice boune-back effort for the 25-year-old after a surprising and disappointing fifth-place finish in the 800 free.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova\u00a0<\/strong>finished hard to sneak into second, just ahead of Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Alys Thomas<\/strong>. Kolesnikov went out quickly and held off countryman\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Rylov<\/strong> to take the win in 52.53.<\/p>\n<p>Kolesnikov broke his own world junior record of 52.95 set in the semi-finals. He also improved to No. 2 in the world for 2018, just behind\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>52.51 from U.S. Nationals last week and just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Matt Grevers&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong>52.55.<\/p>\n<p>Rylov, seemingly out of the race with 15 meters to go, closed hard to pick up a silver medal. Rylov, the reigning World champion in the 200 back and the favorite in that event this week, touched in 52.74. Finishing well back for bronze was Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Apostolos Christou\u00a0i<\/strong>n 53.72.<\/p>\n<p>Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 53.81, and Italians\u00a0<strong>Thomas Ceccon\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Simone Sabbioni<\/strong> tied for fifth in 53.85. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anastasia Fesikova<\/strong>, the silver medalist in the 50 back, claimed the top seed in 59.38, three tenths ahead of Hungarian Olympic champion\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (59.67). The 100 back is Hosszu&#8217;s first individual swim of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Carlotta Zovkova\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 59.88, one hundredth ahead of Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> (59.89). That was just off the top time in the world, the 1:45.12 Rapsys swam this year at the Stockholm Open.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Guy<\/strong>, the 2015 World champion in the 200 free, qualified second in 1:46.44, followed by Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Dovgalyuk<\/strong> (1:46.69). Another Russian,\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Vekovishchev<\/strong>, tied with Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Felippo Megli<\/strong> for fifth in 1:46.70. Efimova, the reigning World champion and top-ranked swimmer in the world at 2:20.72, finished nine tenths ahead of the runner-up, Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Molly Renshaw\u00a0<\/strong>(2:24.39).<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rikke Moeller Pederson<\/strong>, the world record-holder, qualified third in 2:24.56, just ahead of Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marina Garcia Urzainqui<\/strong> (2:24.67) and Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fanny Lecluyse\u00a0<\/strong>(2:25.76). Those top five swimmers all swam in the second semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s<strong> Jessica Vall Montero\u00a0<\/strong>won semi-final No. 1 in 2:25.94, ahead of Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chloe Tutton\u00a0<\/strong>(2:26.62) and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jessica Steiger\u00a0<\/strong>(2:26.84). He finished 16-hundredths ahead of last year&#8217;s World champion in the event, Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ben Proud<\/strong>, who came in at 23.01.<\/p>\n<p>Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristian Gkolomeev\u00a0<\/strong>qualified third in 23.22, and fourth was Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Damian Wierling\u00a0<\/strong>(23.34).
