Day 4 of the European Championships began with Monday\u2019s preliminary session in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Many of the world\u2019s best swimmers look to battle for supremacy and clinch spots in semi-finals later in the day.<\/p>\n

Plenty of strong preliminary racing happened with some intriguing semi-final races looming after close calls during prelims.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

The opening event of the day set up what looks to be an exciting semifinal.<\/p>\n

Lithuania\u2019s Danas Rapsys<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 free in 1:46.55, just ahead of Russia\u2019s Mikhail Vekovischev<\/strong> (1:46.67).<\/p>\n

Great Britain\u2019s James Guy<\/strong> took the third seed in 1:47.67. Poland\u2019s Jan Switkowski<\/strong> was fourth in 1:48.09, followed by Italy\u2019s Filippo Megli<\/strong> (1:48.15).<\/p>\n

Serbia\u2019s Velimir Stjepanovic<\/strong> took the sixth seed in 1:48.22, followed by Russia\u2019s Mikhail Dovgalyuk<\/strong> (1:48.24), Germany\u2019s Jacob Heidtmann<\/strong> (1:48.34), Austria\u2019s Felix Aubock<\/strong> (1:48.37), Israel\u2019s Denis Loktev<\/strong> (1:48.42) and Britain\u2019s Duncan Scott<\/strong> (1:48.53).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n

The 200 breaststroke saw a huge push for Denmark as the country took the top two seeds in the event heading into the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Rikke Moeller Pedersen<\/strong> took the top seed at 2:25.73, closely followed by her compatriot Thea Blomsterberg<\/strong> (2:25.98).<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Marina Garcia Urzainqui<\/strong> was third (2:26.01), followed by Russia\u2019s Vitalina Simonova<\/strong> (2:26.82), Britain\u2019s Molly Renshaw<\/strong> (2:26.88), Spain\u2019s Jessica Vall Montero<\/strong> (2:26.94), Portugal\u2019s Victoria Kaminskaya<\/strong> (2:27.34), Britain\u2019s Chloe Tutton<\/strong> (2:27.37) and Russia\u2019s Yuliya Efimova<\/strong> (2:27.66).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n

Another race spread with contenders from a plethora of countries came in the 50 fly.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s Andriy Govorov<\/strong> took the top seed in 22.90, ending the field by nearly four tenths of a second.<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Benjamin Proud<\/strong> was second in 23.29, followed by Nyls Jan Korstainje<\/strong> (23.40) of the Netherlands, Greece\u2019s Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong> (23.42), Poland\u2019s Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> (23.45), Russia\u2019s Oleg Kostin<\/strong> (23.45), Hungary\u2019s Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> (23.53) and Germany\u2019s Damian Wierling<\/strong> (23.56).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 Back<\/h3>\n

Three women went sub-minute in the 100 backstroke prelims, and several more were close, setting up an exciting semi-final in the event.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Margherita Panziera<\/strong> took the top seed in 59.86, followed by Russia\u2019s Anastasiia Fesikova<\/strong> (59.87), and Denmark\u2019s Mie Nielsen<\/strong> (59.99).<\/p>\n

Britain\u2019s Georgia Davies<\/strong> was fourth at 1:00.03, followed by Italy\u2019s Carlotta Zofkova<\/strong> (1:00.07), Kira Toussaint<\/strong> (1:00.12) of the Netherlands, and Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (1:00.15) and Katalin Burian<\/strong> (1:00.28).<\/p>\n

Mixed 4×100 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n

The mixed medley relay saw the Netherlands take the top seed as Maaike Anna De Waard, Arno Kamminga, Joeri Jordi<\/strong> Verlinden<\/strong> and Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> earn the top seed in 3:45.34.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Jenny Mensing, Fabian Schwingenschloegl, Marius Kusch<\/strong> and Annika Bruhn<\/strong> took second (3:46.22).<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Grigory Tarasevich, Ilya Khomenko, Viktoria Andreeva<\/strong> and Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> took third at 3:46.45.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 1500 Free<\/h3>\n

The prelims of the 1500 free saw eight qualifiers make the finals. There are no semi-finals in the distance events.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Simona Quadarella<\/strong> took the top seed in 16:05.33. Germany\u2019s Sarah Koehler<\/strong> was second (16:06.72) and Hungary\u2019s Anja Kesely<\/strong> was third (16:19.14).<\/p>\n

Liechtenstein\u2019s Julia Hassler<\/strong> took the fourth seed (16:19.89), followed by Slovenia\u2019s Tjasa Oder<\/strong> (16:21.82), Spain\u2019s Jimena Perez Blanco<\/strong> (16:25.02), Portugal\u2019s Tamila Holub<\/strong> (16:25.29) and Germany\u2019s Celine Rieder<\/strong> (16:27.79).<\/p>\n
