SCRANTON, Pennsylvania, October 22. FOR the second consecutive season, the Cabrini men's swimming team split a pair of dual meets to open the season. On Saturday, Cabrini topped FDU-Florham 68-26 and fell to Scranton 63-32 at the University of Scranton's tri-meet. The victory over FDU-Florham is the first for new Cabrini swim coach Ciny Ikeler.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Evan Strickland and junior Tim McCann picked up where they left off last season. Strickland posted his first win of the year, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2:08.76, and finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.15.<\/p>\n
McCann posted a pair of third place finishes in his distance events. The junior finished the 100-yard freestyle in 11:57.51 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:48.12, one spot behind freshman Sean Tallon (5:44.14).<\/p>\n
Sophomore Keith Marr also recorded a pair of top three finishes in his debut. Marr finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (51.69), just ahead of freshman Scott Hunt, and third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.60).<\/p>\n
Sophomore Nick Platt posted a 1:05.07 to finish second in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Chris Ryan added third place finish in the 100-yard
\nbutterfly, finishing in 1:04.39.<\/p>\n
The Blue and White also posted a pair of top three finishes in the relays. The team of Brandon Mazepa, Strickland, Ryan and Tallon finished third in the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 1:50.31. Ryan, Hunt, McCann and Marr closed the meet with a second place finish in 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.97.<\/p>\n
The Cabrini College women's swimming team got its 2012-13 seasons off to a great start as the Blue and White team notched a dual meet win over FDU-Florham while falling to the University of Scranton today at Scranton's tri-meet. The women topped FDU-Florham 56-37, handing new coach Cindy Ikeler her first career victory, and lost to Scranton 63-31.<\/p>\n
While the meet was scored as three separate dual meets, all of the events included swimmers from Cabrini, FDU-Florham and Scranton.<\/p>\n
The Cavaliers were led by junior Courtney Good who posted her first career victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.33. The rookie also posted a time of 2:28.46 in the 200-yard individual medley to place third.<\/p>\n
Junior Elyse Phillips was impressive in the long distance events for the Cavaliers, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:42.22) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (13:37.21).<\/p>\n
Freshman Jeanine Kohlbrecker placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:26.79), while junior Kimberly Crowther and Alexis Drew both finished third in 100-yard freestyle (1:09.10) and 100-yard butterfly (1:11.78), respectively. <\/p>\n
Cabrini's relay teams also posted a pair of third place finishes. The team of Good, Kohlbecker, Jessica Pepenella and Crowther opened the meet with a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 2:13.40. Maryellen Jerram, Lauren Ciccariello, Phillips and Alexis Drew joined forces to post a time of 2:03.95 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
