{"id":323655,"date":"2018-08-04T09:00:09","date_gmt":"2018-08-04T16:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=323655"},"modified":"2018-08-04T11:26:37","modified_gmt":"2018-08-04T18:26:37","slug":"mason-manta-rays-and-terrapins-swim-team-set-up-thrilling-finale-on-last-morning-of-speedo-junior-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mason-manta-rays-and-terrapins-swim-team-set-up-thrilling-finale-on-last-morning-of-speedo-junior-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Mason Manta Rays and Terrapins Swim Team Set Up Thrilling Finale On Last Morning Of Speedo Junior Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final morning of the 2018 Speedo Junior Nationals from Irvine, California set up an exciting finish between the Mason Manta Rays and the Terrapins Swim Team as the two teams are tied atop the men&#8217;s leaderboard after four days.\u00a0<strong>Jake Foster\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Andrei Minakov\u00a0<\/strong>are top seeds for each team in their respective events.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 50 free will also be a stacked race with four swimmers having already won events this week.\u00a0<strong>Christiana Regenauer<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Crisera\u00a0<\/strong>have all won at least one event so far this week and they will be vying for the 50 title tonight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grace Sheble\u00a0<\/strong>is the other top seed in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Stream<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2018-speedo-junior-nationals-day-5-prelims-heat-sheets-day-5-usa-age-group-2018-08-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat Sheets<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=0001120103ffffffffffffffffffffff&amp;day=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>15-year-old\u00a0<strong>Grace Sheble\u00a0<\/strong>of Nova of Virginia has the top seed in the 200 IM by almost a full second as she swam a 2:16.82 on the last morning of the Speedo Junior Nationals in Irvine. Sheble is almost a full second ahead of second place\u00a0<strong>Claire Tuggle\u00a0<\/strong>of Clovis Swim Club (2:17.65) who won the 400 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Tuggle moved up to number 28 all-time in the 13-14 age group behind\u00a0<strong>Maya DiRado\u00a0<\/strong>and a few spots ahead of\u00a0<strong>Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Asphalt Green&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Isabel Gormley\u00a0<\/strong>(2:17.85) and Team Greenville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Havens Rice\u00a0<\/strong>(2:17.97) followed them as they could have a chance to take the win tonight. The Manta Rays are in contention for the men&#8217;s team title and putting two up in the A-Final is huge for them. They are currently in the lead tied with Terrapins Swim Team after four days of competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Winton<\/strong>\u00a0(2:04.12)\u00a0of Swim Atlanta and\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Perera <\/strong>of the Dayton Raiders\u00a0(2:04.51) are third and fourth. Winton has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/notre-dame-adds-verbal-commitments-from-zachary-smith-and-andrew-winton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committed to Notre Dame<\/a> while Perera has committed to Alabama.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zach Hils\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.86),\u00a0<strong>Jason Louser\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.05),\u00a0<strong>Tim Connery\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.08) and\u00a0<strong>Shane Blinkman\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.43) also qualified for the A-Final. Regenauer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/christiana-regenauer-on-double-tapers-video-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already a winner<\/a>\u00a0in the 100 free, swam a 25.75 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Emma Wheal<\/strong>&#8216;s 25.89. Regenauer has committed to Louisville where she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/louisville-gets-verbal-commit-from-sprinter-christina-regenauer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will be a freshman<\/a> in the fall of 2019. Wheal is also in the class of 2019 and has committed to Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the field behind the top two is separated by 0.13 seconds as\u00a0<strong>Megan Keil\u00a0<\/strong>(26.03)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Rachel Rhee\u00a0<\/strong>(26.09)\u00a0will be in lanes three and six in the final.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very stacked final as half the field has already won an event this week in Irvine.<\/p>\n<p>100 breast champ\u00a0<strong>Kaitlyn Dobler\u00a0<\/strong>(26.10) and\u00a0200 free champ\u00a0<strong>Erin Gemmell\u00a0<\/strong>(26.15) are also in the A-Final as well as 200 and 100 back champ\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Crisera\u00a0<\/strong>(26.16). Minakov might challenge the meet record of 22.13 by\u00a0<strong>Vlad Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>from 2010. Minakov has already set two meet records this week at Juniors.<\/p>\n<p>The Terrapins are currently tied for first with the Mason Manta Rays after four days.\u00a0<strong>Adam Chaney\u00a0<\/strong>of the Manta Rays put up the second seeded time with a 22.96. Minakov and Chaney were the only two under 23 in the heats.
