Quadarella put up a massive time of 8:16.35, making her the second-fastest swimmer in the world this year behind\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> and the seventh-fastest swimmer of all-time, in between the great\u00a0<strong>Janet Evans\u00a0<\/strong>(8:16.22) and\u00a0<strong>Boglarka Kapas\u00a0<\/strong>(8:16.37).<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anja Kesely\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 8:21.91, setting the first European junior record in the event. After a stunning 0.47 reaction time, Peaty went out in 26.65 and finished in 57.00, under his own world record of 57.13 set on his way to Olympic gold two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty has admitted that he is aiming for a sub-57-second 100 breaststroke before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and now, he just has one-hundredth to go.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain ended up finishing 1-2 in the race, as teammate\u00a0<strong>James Wilby\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 58.54, moving him behind Peaty and\u00a0<strong>Cameron van der Burgh\u00a0<\/strong>as the third-fastest swimmer in history. Sjostrom ended up finishing in 56.13, moving her ahead of\u00a0<strong>Rikako Ikee\u00a0<\/strong>(56.23) as the fastest swimmer in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p>No one in the field could challenge Sjostrom. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 57.30, and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elena Di Liddo\u00a0<\/strong>took bronze in 57.58. Grinev and fellow Russian\u00a0<strong>Danila Izotov\u00a0<\/strong>combined to lock teammate\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>out of the semi-finals because of the two-per-country rule.<\/p>\n<p>Scotish hometown favorite\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>qualified fifth in 48.52, followed by Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sergii Shevtsov\u00a0<\/strong>(48.62), Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luca Dotto\u00a0<\/strong>(48.66) and Croatia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bruno Blaskovic\u00a0<\/strong>(48.800. She broke the championship record of 1:06.16, a mark set by Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u00a0<\/strong>two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Efimova holds the top time in the world at 1:04.98, followed by American rival <strong>Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:05.36.\u00a0Whatever happens in the final, Efimova will be looking to post a mark out of reach for King, who will compete next week at the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Siobhan-Marie O&#8217;Connor\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second in 1:06.89, and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Arianna Castiglioni<\/strong> took third in 1:06.91.
