CLEVELAND, Jan. 13. TOP competition is one necessity needed to take a program to the next level and Delta State University continued it climb, taking on
\nTexas Christian and Louisiana Monroe on Saturday. TCU and ULM became the third and fourth NCAA Division I programs to visit Delta State University\u2019s new Aquatic Center in less than a month.<\/p>\n
The Horned Frogs men and women each captured seven of 13 events in their respective meets. TCU's men defeated the Statesmen 65-47 and Louisiana-Monroe 79-23, while the women won 69-39 over the Lady Statesmen
\nand 69-41 versus ULM.<\/p>\n
Delta State did capture wins over Louisiana-Monroe for the second consecutive year. The Statesmen were 86-22 winners while the Lady Statesmen narrowly escaped with a 55-54 victory.<\/p>\n
The DSU 200 medley relay team of Justin Whitaker, Onurken Gevensel, John Deville and Ryan Rogers touched the wall at 1:35.35 just ahead of TCU\u2019s 1:35.66.<\/p>\n
Justin Whitaker won the 100 yard freestyle with a top ten time of 46.89. Ashley Droke\u2019s 5:18.53 captured first in the women\u2019s 500 freestyle, finishing just ahead of ULM\u2019s Maria Guerra\u2019s 5:18.89.<\/p>\n
Onurken Guvensel won the men\u2019s 200 breaststroke with time of 2:11.23.<\/p>\n
David Young, Whitaker, Brian Shaw and Rogers teamed to win the men\u2019s 400 freestyle relay, swimming a time of 3:15.55. <\/p>\n
Nilay Aydin, Droke, Allyn Meador, and Shelley Baker posted a 3:48.31 to win the women\u2019s 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
A couple of narrow second place finishes could have made the meet much tighter. Meador\u2019s 25.53 was edged out by TCU\u2019s Maria Schenke\u2019s 24.95 in the 50 freestyle. <\/p>\n
Ryan Rogers swam a 25.93 but was unfortunately behind TCU\u2019s Aaron Ewert\u2019s 24.95 in the men\u2019s 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Other second place finishes for DSU included Kristen Demoruelle in 200 breaststroke (2:36.42) and Jared Woodford in the 1000 freestle (9:48.31).<\/p>\n
Patrick Krebs scored 238.30 points to finished third in the 1-meter diving behind TCU\u2019s Chad Hummel with 288.90. Krebs also finished third in the three-meter diving with 236.60 points. Stephen Gebren (301.80)
\nand Hummel (296.45) of TCU were first and second respectively.<\/p>\n
On Friday night the three teams swam a relay exhibition meet. TCU captured 17 of 19 events, losing only the men and women\u2019s 400 medley relays. DSU\u2019s Baker, Meador, Aydin and Demoruelle won the women\u2019s
\n400 medley relay with a 3:53.39. The Horned Frogs' 200 freestyle relay set a new pool record with a 1:37.98. <\/p>\n
TCU\u2019s Erin Irons lead leg in the relay also set a new pool record for the 50 freestyle with a time of
\n24:47.<\/p>\n
