PHOENIX, Arizona, October 19. GARY Hall Sr. got a promotion on the United States Olympians Association Leadership team recently, moving up from vice president to president.<\/p>\n
Hall, a three-time Olympian, will lead the group that, in general, works to promote and spread the Olympic ideal of sportsmanship and “stimulate national interest in the Olympic Games,” according to the organization's website.<\/p>\n
“I want to thank all of you that participated in the election process for the United States Olympians Association,” Hall posted on Facebook Wednesday. “I am deeply honored to have been elected President and will do my very best to serve our Olympians and Paralympians well for the next four years. Go Team USA!”<\/p>\n
Hall will serve as president for four years through 2016. In the past term he had served as one of seven vice presidents that included diver Greg Louganis and high jumper Dick Fosbury. In the 2005-2008 term, swimming legend John Naber had served as president.<\/p>\n
Hall was the flag bearer for the USA team at the closing ceremony for the 1976 Olympics, and won three Olympic medals in 1968 (silver, 400 IM), 1972 (silver, 200 fly) and 1976 (bronze, 100 fly). He currently is the head coach of The Race Club in southern Florida.<\/p>\n
