IN May of 2008, the Arizona State men&#039;s swim team was cut, alongside men&#039;s wrestling and tennis, for budgeting reasons. Through the quick response and persistent efforts of alumni and community members, the program was re-instated several month later. To date, the Sun Devils are in the strongest position they have been since the cut. ASU&#039;s athletic department has commended fundraising efforts and has additionally begun providing resources to and support for its continuation. However, as is the unfortunate situation of so many collegiate swim teams, until Arizona State is fully endowed, the program&#039;s continued existence is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=http:\/\/www.sundevilswimming.org\/ target=_blank>Sun Devil Swimming Association<\/a> (SDSA) will host its Fifth Annual Dinner Gala and Casino night at the <a href=http:\/\/www.tempe.gov\/index.aspx?page=575 target=_blank>Tempe Center for Arts<\/a>, Fri., Nov. 2 beginning at 5 p.m. The event is highlighted by the presence of Olympic Gold Medalists Nathan Adrian, Kaitlin Sandeno and Charlie Houchin, among others. In conjunction with the night&#039;s special guests, the theme for this year&#039;s banquet is &#8220;Celebrating Arizona State Olympic History.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Starting at 5 p.m., the SDSA will host a private reception with Adrian, Sandeno, Houchin and other Olympic medalists in the &#8220;Gold Medal Lounge,&#8221; followed by a public reception starting at 6 p.m., dinner and a Casino Night experience beginning at 8 p.m. Participants are encouraged to come to any or all of the nights events, with chances to play games and win prizes later in the night.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the SDSA Dinner Gala and Casino night, the Sun Devil swim team will host a media meet and greet beginning at 3 p.m. at the <a href=http:\/\/www.SwimmingWorldMagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/College\/31646.asp target=_blank>newly renovated Mona Plummer Aquatic Center<\/a> to showcase the facility upgrades, meet the 2012-13 Arizona State swim team and Olympians Adrian, Sandeno and Houchin. Head ASU Coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker, several athletes and the Olympians will be available for a brief window of time for interviews and photo opportunities. <\/p>\n<p>The first Gala was held in 2008, six months after the men&#039;s team was cut, and featured Olympic gold medalists Jason Lezak and Amy Van Dyken as guest speakers. The following year, world-renowned coaches Dave Marsh and Bill Rose took the stage.
