The third evening of the 2018 Speedo Junior Nationals from Irvine, California, is a relatively short one with the finals of the 400 free and the 100 fly on the schedule, along with a record-setting relay.<\/p>\n

But it was Andrei Minakov<\/strong>, who stole the show with a meet record in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Claire Tuggle<\/strong> continued her strong year by winning the junior national title in the 400 free to open night three of the Speedo Junior National Championships.<\/p>\n

The Clovis swimmer finished the race in 4:10.11, holding off a surging Kensey McMahon<\/strong> of Bolles School (4:10.46).<\/p>\n

Kaitlynn Sims<\/strong> was third (4:13.37), followed by Olivia McMurray<\/strong> (4:15.74), Miranda Heckman<\/strong> (4:16.05), Abigail McCulloh<\/strong> (4:16.60), Amanda Ray<\/strong> (4:16.90) and Easop Lee<\/strong> (4:17.66).<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was the battle of the Jakes for the men\u2019s 400 free title on Thursday with Jake Magahey<\/strong> and Jake Mitchell<\/strong> battling stroke for stroke all the way to the final wall.<\/p>\n

Maguey was able to hold off Mitchell and get his hand on the walls in 3:52.32. Mitchell finished in 3:52.88.<\/p>\n

Julian Hill<\/strong> was third in 3:55.02, followed by Owen Kao<\/strong> (3:55.17), Ivan Pushkovitch<\/strong> (3:57.35), Calvin David<\/strong> (3:57.48), Arik Katz<\/strong> (3:57.58) and Coleman Kramer<\/strong> (3:57.81).<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coleen Gillilan<\/strong> had the top seed int he women\u2019s 100 fly heading into Thursday\u2019s finals and used a balanced race to win the junior national title and hold off the rest of the field.<\/p>\n

Gillilan finished the race in 59.01 to hold off Claire Curzan<\/strong> (59.85) and Justina Kozan<\/strong> (59.89), who had a strong back half of the race.<\/p>\n

Talia Bates<\/strong> took fourth (1:00.10), followed by Kylee Alons<\/strong> (1:00.35), Emma Sticklen<\/strong> (1:00.59), Trude Rothrock<\/strong> (1:00.66) and Jewels Harris<\/strong> (1:01.15).<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Andrei Minakov<\/strong> used a blistering start to set a meet record to win the men\u2019s 100 fly.<\/p>\n

Minakov, of Terrapins, used a 24.00 first 50 to finish the race in 51.88, breaking the 2015 junior national meet record set by Michael Andrew<\/strong> (52.57).<\/p>\n

Alexei Sancov<\/strong> took second in 53.28, giving the Terrapins a 1-2 finish.<\/p>\n

River Wright<\/strong> was third (53.63), followed by Connor Lee<\/strong> (53.67), Ethan Hu<\/strong> (53.69), Zachary Smith<\/strong> (53.83), Spencer Daily<\/strong> (54.12) and Noah Henderson<\/strong> (54.34).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 4×200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n

The Mason Manta Rays surged to a meet record in the 4×200 free relay on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Jacob McDonald, Jake Foster, Carson Foster<\/strong> and Adam Chaney f<\/strong>inished in 7:26.74 to conclude the evening\u2019s events.<\/p>\n

SwimAtlanta\u2019s Bradley Dunham, Jack DuBois, Dylan Scott<\/strong> and Jake Magahey<\/strong> took second in 7:31.79.<\/p>\n

Terrapins\u2019 Matt Fetterman, Andrei Minakov, Andrew Rodriguez<\/strong> and Alexei Sancov<\/strong> were third in 7:33.85.<\/p>\n
