ATHENS, Ohio, October 15. OHIO Swimming and Diving kicked off the 2012-13 season with its annual intrasquad meet this weekend. The Green Team, coached by senior Deidre Geroni, edged the White Team by two points, 53-51.<\/p>\n
“This was a great start to the 2012-13 campaign,” said Head Coach Greg Werner. “Many of our student-athletes turned in season bests while a few recorded career-best times.”<\/p>\n
The White Team got off to a strong start, with Addison Ferguson, Anastasia Bocharnikova, Caroline Meyer and Katey Brooks picking up a win in the 200 Medley Relay.<\/p>\n
Kristin Capcik and Stephanie Gyurke put the Green Team on the board in the next two events, taking the top spots in Three-Meter Diving and the 200 Freestyle, respectively.<\/p>\n
A good takeaway from the event was how balanced the teams were as they battled back and forth before Green emerged a winner.<\/p>\n
“I'm very excited for the prospects of this season,” Werner added. “With 12 people winning events in the intrasquad meet, we already have a great blend of returning and new talent.”<\/p>\n
Ohio will next be in action against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Bobcats and Eagles will begin competition at the Ohio University Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
“While we started well, we will have to be much better to compete with a very talented and well-coached Eastern Michigan squad on Oct. 27,” Werner said.<\/p>\n
