BURLINGTON, Vermont, October 13. FRESHMAN Christa Weaver won three individual events to help the University of Vermont swimming and diving team earn a 177-121 victory over visiting Wagner on Saturday afternoon. Saturday marked the first home meet of the season for the Catamounts, who improve to 3-1 on the year.<\/p>\n
Vermont took the top two spots in six different events and won a total of 10 races on the day. Weaver swept the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events on the day. She won the 50 in a time of 24.23 and was followed by classmate Diane Brown (25.07) in second. Weaver set a new UVM freshmen record in the 100 with a time of 52.39, breaking her sister Kate's mark that was set in 2007. The Cats went 1-2-3 in the 100, as Brown (54.31) and Andie Blaser (54.37) came in second and third. Weaver also won the 200 free in 1:53.76.<\/p>\n
Senior Kailey Gardner took the top spot in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:35.76, while freshman Carah McClure was second (10:44.26). Chelsea Krisanda won the 400 IM in a time of 4:33.92 and was followed in second by Gardner (4:36.40). The Catamounts also took the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke, led by Emily Metta (1:08.77) and Eva Wimberley (1:10.55).<\/p>\n
Sophomore Samantha Russo claimed the top spot in the one meter dive with a score of 209.17, while classmate Ilsa Feierabend won the 200 backstroke in 2:07.49. Freshman Lauren Becker wrapped up the Vermont individual victories with a win in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:31.33.<\/p>\n
UVM also opened the meet by going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, led by the squad of Feierabend, Metta, Blaser and Brown in a time of 1:50.23.<\/p>\n
The Catamounts return to action next Saturday when they travel to face America East rival New Hampshire starting at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
