WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia, October 13. THE William and Mary women's swimming team won 13 of 14 events Friday night against Mary Washington, riding a wave of strong performances to a 205-56 victory. The Tribe improves to 1-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to same record.<\/p>\n
200 Medley Relay
\nThe wins started early in the evening, with the team of Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), Liz Collins (Alexandria, Va.), Courtney Mizerak (Manassas, Va.), and Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.) posting an aggregate time of 1:51.38 to seize the victory. Megan Howard (McLean, Va.), Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.), Jenny Lomicka (Henrico, Va.), and Emily Bart (Cherry Hill, N.J.) were right behind them in 1:51.87, claiming the silver medal.<\/p>\n
1000 Free
\nFreshman Elena Marsilii (Falls Church, Va.) won her first collegiate victory with a time of 10:37.67 to take first in the 1000 free. Senior Meghan Baker (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was second in 10:45.71, and junior Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.) completed the podium sweep in 10:46.94.<\/p>\n
200 Free
\nSenior Caylyn Tate (Sterling, Va.) won the first of her two events on the night in the 200 free, swimming 1:56.99 to out-touch freshman teammate Hannah Vester (Cincinnati, Ohio). Vester finished second in 1:57.01, and Sara Shaner picked up the bronze medal in 1:58.18.<\/p>\n
100 Back
\nMegan Howard also won a pair of races against the Eagles, with her first coming in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.55. Jessie Ustjanauskas was right behind her in 1:00.86, and sophomore Katie Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) kept the monopoly of the top-three spots going with a third-place time of 1:01.60.<\/p>\n
100 Breast
\nMary Washington's only win of the night came courtesy of All-American Amber Kerico in the 100 breast. For the Tribe, Liz Collins was second in 1:10.10, and fellow sophomore Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.) was third in 1:10.63.<\/p>\n
200 Fly
\nFreshman Rachel Cortwright (Ridgewood, N.J.) was one of five freshmen to record victories in the meet, and picked up hers in the 200 butterfly after timing 2:13.93. She led classmates Jenny Lomicka and Courtney Mizerak in the event, with Lomicka taking second in 2:14.49 and Mizerak rounding out the trio in 2:17.28.<\/p>\n
50 Free
\nNoelle Klockner's first of two wins came in the 50 free, where she powered through the finish in 25.01 seconds. Fellow rookie Amanda Weidner (Evanston, Ill.) finished third overall, stopping the clock at 25.44.<\/p>\n
100 Free
\nThe first intermission proved just the right length for Sara Shaner, who fired out of the blocks in the 100 free and led wire-to-wire in a 53.26 win. Greta Schneider was the silver-medalist in 54.51 seconds, and Jen Bentley earned her second bronze medal with a time of 54.76 seconds.<\/p>\n
200 Back
\nKlockner's second win of the night came in the 200 back, where she stretched out at the wall and tapped the pad in 2:09.22. Freshman Lindsey Winston (Henrico, Va.) was second in 2:10.43, just .5 seconds ahead of Katie Thomas's third-place effort.<\/p>\n
200 Breast
\nSenior Emily Bart picked up her first win of the season in the 200 breast, timing 2:26.74 to finish comfortably ahead of the field. Jenny Lomicka was third in the race, touching the wall in 2:33.98.<\/p>\n
500 Free
\nCaylyn Tate and Hannah Vester repeated their finish from the 200 free in the 500, going 1-2 once again. Tate's second win came in 5:10.91, while Vester took 5:12.69 to complete the 20 lengths of the pool.<\/p>\n
100 Fly
\nJessie Ustajanauskas added her name to the winner's pile in the 100 fly, swimming a very impressive 59.22 for the victory. Sophomore Rebecca Spicher (Chesapeake, Va.) finished third, with a time of 1:01.27.<\/p>\n
200 IM
\nAfter two weeks of close calls, Lindsey Winston finally broke through with a win in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:08.92. Junior Devin Henry (Roanoke, Va.) won the silver in 2:11.58, and Megan Howard completed the event sweep in 2:13.46.<\/p>\n
400 Free Relay
\nthe Tribe's freshman foursome of Hannah Vester, Sara Schad (North Yarmouth, Maine), Jessie Ustjanauskas, and Noelle Klockner put the punctuation mark on the victory with a win in the 400 free relay, combining to pass the metaphorical baton in 3:38.34. The junior class also swam together, with Sara Shaner, Gabby Famularo (Virginia Beach, Va.), Jen Bentley, and Devin Henry combing to finish second in 3:40.11.<\/p>\n
William and Mary has two weeks off before its next meet, hosting Richmond on Homecoming Weekend. The women's-only meet will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.<\/p>\n
3M Diving Relay: In the synchronized 3M diving relay, Gaboury teamed with Oakland's Tricia Grant as the duo outdistanced the field by scoring 236.75. Chiang and Casareto (217.30) were exhibitioned, but would have finished second.<\/p>\n
The William and Mary men's swimming team put on a show for the hometown crowd Friday night, cruising past Mary Washington 207-54 at the Rec Center Pool. The Tribe improves to 2-0 on the year, while the Eagles are now 1-1 overall.<\/p>\n

The winning quartet touched the wall in 1:35.94, and included Justin Barden (Gordonsville, Va.), Chris Dong (Chapel Hill, N.C.), K.J. Shaw (Richmond, Va.), and Hunter Perrot (Falls Church, Va.). Senior Sidney Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.) lent his veteran leadership to the second-place squad that also included Charley Bowles (Yorktown, Va.), Jeremiah O'Donnell (Chapel Hill, N.C.), and Billy Russell (Newport News, Va.), helping the team finish in 1:36.92.<\/p>\n
1000 Free
\nIn the 1000, junior Tyler Poling (Morristown, N.J.) picked up his second career victory with a 9:59.95 showing. Carter Head (Lynchburg, Va.) was second in 10:10.91, and Taegan Clarke (Chappaqua, N.Y.) took the bronze in 10:19.53.<\/p>\n
200 Free
\nThe 200 free was the Eagles' sole victory on the night, courtesy of All-American Alex Anderson. For the Tribe, Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.) finished second overall in 1:43.95, and Kemp Pettyjohn (Lynchburg, Va.) was third in 1:44.57.<\/p>\n
100 Back
\nIn the 100 back, Sidney Glass picked up the first of his two individual wins on the night, swimming an easy 51.97 for the victory. Justin Barden was next to the wall, coming in at 54.45 for second place.<\/p>\n
100 Breast
\nIt was a freshman show in the 100 breast, as the Tribe sent three rookies to the blocks and came away with a 1-2-3 sweep. Will Manion (Haddonfield, N.J.) led the way in 1:00.18, with Andrew Nyce (Vienna, Va.) close behind in 1:00.64. Charley Bowles completed the trifecta in 1:01.26 for third place.<\/p>\n
200 Fly
\nFreshman Austin Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.) picked up his first collegiate win in the 200 fly, stopping the clock in 1:59.20. Classmate Jeremiah O'Donnell was just an inch behind in 1:59.47, and Nathaniel Holmes (Alma, Mich.) finished third in 2:01.36.<\/p>\n
50 Free
\nLike Glass (the elder) and Manion, Andrew Strait won a pair of races in the meet. His first victory came in the 50 free, where he swam 21.16 to blow away the field. Billy Russell was second in 22.11, and Ian Robert (New Canaan, Conn.) took third in 22.33.<\/p>\n
100 Free
\nComing out of the first intermission, Sidney Glass stormed to victory in the 100 free in 47.60 seconds, his best-ever in-season time and just .02 off his lifetime-best in the event. Ian Robert took his second-straight bronze medal, touching the wall in 49 seconds flat.<\/p>\n
200 Back
\nWill Manion continued to assault the Tribe record books, crushing his 200 backstroke in 1:51.53 to rank seventh all-time in the event and take the win. Manion is just over 1.5 seconds off of Josh Osterberg's '01 freshman record. Classmate Charley Bowles was second in the race, timing 1:57.09, and senior Evan Rutherford (Newport News, Va.) was third in 2:01.89.<\/p>\n
200 Breast
\nSophomore Chris Dong picked up a gold medal in the 200 breast, swimming 2:10.25 to out-pace Jeremiah O'Donnell (2:12.21) to the wall. Carter Head completed the podium sweep with his 2:15.52 showing to place third.<\/p>\n
500 Free
\nThe senior duo of Hunter Perrot and Kyle McVeigh (Jacksonville, Fla.) showed the youngsters how to get it done in the 500 free, taking the top two spots in the event. Perrot came away with the win in 4:57.42, and McVeigh was close behind in 5:00.70.<\/p>\n
100 Fly
\nAndrew Strait's 30th-career win came in lifetime-best fashion, as he swam 50.19 in the 100 fly to beat the Eagles' Anderson in their second head-to-head match-up of the night. He now ranks fourth in school history in the 100 fly, and is just the eighth man since 1985 to reach the 30-win plateau. Kemp Pettyjohn took third in the event, timing 53.39.<\/p>\n
200 IM
\nSenior K.J. Shaw added another win to his career tally in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:58.44 to stop the clock. Chris Dong was second in 2:03.85, and Tyler Poling was third in 2:05.35.<\/p>\n
400 Free Relay
\nThe freshman foursome of Justin Barden, Will Manion, Ryan Natal (Great Falls, Va.), and Billy Russell took the victor's laurels in the 400 free relay to close the night, combining to swim 3:12.97 for the win. Second place also went to the Tribe, thanks to the team of Kemp Pettyjohn, Hunter Perrot, Taegan Clarke, and Evan Rutherford. That quartet recorded a total time of 3:13.77.<\/p>\n
William and Mary has three full weeks off until its next meet. The Tribe will next be in the pool on Nov. 3-4, competing at the CAA Pod Meet in Delaware. In addition to the host Blue Hens, W&M will also swim against defending CAA Champion UNCW in the two-day, 19-event meet.<\/p>\n
