It could be argued that day four of the 2018 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships showcased the most exciting action yet. Several Team USA veterans maintained their dominance in their events, while younger up and comers made their names well known.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the evening went to\u00a0Kathleen Baker<\/strong>, who won the women’s 100 back in world record breaking time with a 58.00. Her time eclipsed\u00a0Canada’s\u00a0Kylie Masse’s<\/strong> 58.10 from last summer’s World Championships in Budapest. Baker’s time also downs\u00a0Missy Franklin’s<\/strong> American record and her own U.S. Open record.<\/p>\n

The women’s 100 back also featured several of Team USA’s top young stars as Regan Smith<\/strong> lowered her own World Junior Record to a 58.83 and\u00a0Phoebe Bacon<\/strong>\u00a0picked up the fourth place finish.<\/p>\n

Olympic gold medallists highlighted the men’s 100 back as\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/strong> and\u00a0Matt Grevers<\/strong> finished 1-2 in the event. Murphy’s win completed a sweep of the backstroke events and earned Grevers his spot on the Pan Pacific Championship team roster.<\/p>\n

Lilly King<\/strong> continued to reign over the sprint breaststroke events, while Michael Andrew<\/strong> added to his 50 breast victory with a 100 breast victory.<\/p>\n

The reigning distance queens,\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> and\u00a0Leah Smith,\u00a0<\/strong>turned in the top two times for the women’s 400 free and\u00a0Zane Grothe<\/strong> continued to reign over the men’s 400 free.<\/p>\n
