GAFFNEY, South Carolina, October 6. THE Limestone men's and women's swimming teams opened the season in style with a dominate showing against King in a dual swim meet on Saturday, October 06 at the Timken Aquatic Center. The men's team (1-0) defeated the Tornado men's team (0-1) 213-37, and the women's team (1-0) got a 203-45 victory over their counterparts (0-1).<\/p>\n
Both teams had numerous tremendous performances on the day as they recorded first-place finishes in all but one event.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, the trio of freshmen Christian Larsen (Essen, Germany), Kristofers Pone (Jurmala, Latvia), Denis Schulz (Alsdorf, Germany) and junior Zack Conviser (Arden, N.C.) paced the Saints.<\/p>\n
Larsen squeezed out victories in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles with the times of 49.03 and 1:49.64, respectively. His combined margin of victory was less than .60 seconds in the two events.<\/p>\n
Pone and Schulz also had notable debuts for the Saints. Pone swept the 100 (59.34) and 200-yard (2:11.35) breaststroke competitions in runaway fashion. While, Schulz won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.46 before having to hold off teammate freshman Raul Uranga (Chihuahua, Mexico) by the thin margin of 2:02.05-to-2:02.76 in the 200-yard backstroke.<\/p>\n
Conviser notched a pair of triumphs in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. In the butterfly, Conviser held off sophomore Wes Poss (Lawrenceville, Ga.) by the paper thin margin .03 seconds with the time of 2:01.01. In the individual medley he got an almost three-second victory over the second-place competitor with a mark of 2:03.40.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, freshman Patricia Santa Fe (Sao Paulo, Brazil), sophomore Emily Reh (Yuma, Arizona) and senior Razan Taha (Amman, Jordan) led the way with each earning victories in two different events.<\/p>\n
Santa Fe, making her first appearance for the Blue and Gold, earned a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:50.09 which was 1:13 second better than second-place. Her other top finish was in the 500-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 5:16.36.<\/p>\n
Reh won the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events with the marks of 53.22 and 1:57.32, respectively. While returning National Qualifier, Taha nabbed victories in the 50-yard freestyle (24.28) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.85).<\/p>\n
Taha and Reh also helped the Saints to capture first-place finishes in both relay sections of the meet. The LC “A” team of Taha, Reh, freshman Morgan Jones (Loganville, Ga.) and Rejan Chin defeated the Limestone “B” by more than eight seconds with a mark of 1:51.91 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Santa Fe and sophomore Brianna Jones (Summerville, S.C.) joined Taha and Reh to dominate the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.54.<\/p>\n
