Upsets continued to occur throughout day two of the 2018 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships as younger athletes continued to find themselves on a major Team USA roster for the first time.<\/p>\n

Teen phenom Michael Andrew<\/strong>\u00a0successfully qualified for his first international roster in the men’s 50 fly, edging out sprint superstar\u00a0Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> 22.93 to 22.97. Andrew’s national title qualifies him for the 2019 World Championship roster, however, he will need to qualify in an Olympic event to make the roster for the Pan Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n

Kelsi Dahlia<\/strong> continued to reign supreme in the sprint butterfly events by tying her own American Record of 25.48 in the 50. Her time dipped below the existing meet record of 25.50, set by\u00a0Dara Torres<\/strong> in 2009.<\/p>\n

16-year-old\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong> surged to a new World Junior Record (WJR) in the women’s 200 back, clocking a personal best time of 2:06.43. She succeeded in matching Olympian\u00a0Kathleen Baker’s<\/strong> time, so the two shared the national title.<\/p>\n

Ryan Murphy<\/strong> and\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> topped the 200 back and 200 free, respectively, while\u00a0Allison Schmitt<\/strong> succeeded in making a comeback and qualifying for the Pan Pacific Championships in the 200 free behind Ledecky.<\/p>\n
