LAST night, <i>Swimming World<\/i> five-star recruit Janardan Burns of the Mission Viejo Nadadores committed to Dave Durden&#039;s University of California Berkeley men&#039;s program. As a highly visible high school swimmer, we can only imagine the recruiting trip put together for Burns. It certainly was enough to convince Burns that Cal&#039;s notoriously fast sprint program was the right fit. <\/p>\n<p>Burns, who first came to prominence nationally as an open water prodigy with the Nadadores, turned it up in the long course events in the pool as well.  He has strong times in the 200 free (1:52.31), 400 free (3:53.26) and 1500 free (15:30.40), and is a likely NCAA Division I Championship qualifier in both of the distance freestyle short course yard events with top times in the 500 free (4:23.28) and 1650 free (15:21.41).<\/p>\n<p>While Teri McKeever is well on her way to the top recruiting class in the nation for the women at California, Burns kicked off Durden&#039;s Class of 2013 by committing to the Golden Bears last night.  <\/p>\n<p>McKeever already has a pair of six stars on their way to California with the commitments of Pleasanton Seahawk Celina Li and Baylor&#039;s Kristen Vredeveld earlier this month. <\/p>\n<p>At age 14, Burns was <i> Swimming World Magazine&#039;s <\/i> Age Group Swimmer of the Month.
