This week\u2019s Performance Of The Week, <\/span>sponsored by LumaLanes<\/span><\/a>, goes to <\/span>Ramon Klenz <\/b>for his performance in the men\u2019s 200 butterfly at the 2018 German National Championships. <\/span><\/p>\n

Swimming in the opening event of the meet, Klenz won the 200 fly in a huge best time of 1:55.76, an almost two second drop from his previous best of 1:57.50. That broke a 32-year old national record that was set way back in 1986 by the legendary <\/span>Michael Gross<\/b>, who won the Olympic Gold in 1988. The previous record had stood at 1:56.24, making Klenz the first German swimmer to swim the event under 1:56.<\/span><\/p>\n

That time puts 19-year-old Klenz just outside of the top ten in the world (he is now sitting 11th), but will be entering next month\u2019s European Championships as the number three seed behind Hungarians <\/span>Kristof Milak <\/b>and <\/span>Tamas Kenderesi<\/b>. While he is still a few seconds off from challenging them, the young German should be in the race in two weeks in Glasgow and will have a another chance to take that record even lower. <\/span><\/p>\n
