It was a fast second day of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Series \u2013 Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio. Co-hosted by the\u00a0Firestone Akron Swim Team and the Hudson Explores Aquatic Team, the meet will run from July 19-22 at Cleveland State\u2019s Busbey Natatorium.<\/p>\n

After finishing sixth in last night’s 200 back, Ohio State’s\u00a0Rebekah Bradley\u00a0<\/strong>found herself on top of the podium tonight in the 50 back. She sprinted to the wall in a final time of 29.64.<\/p>\n The Buckeyes took gold and silver in this event as\u00a0Devin Landstra\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 29.87. Club Wolverine’s\u00a0Claire Young\u00a0<\/strong>also snuck under the 30-second barrier to finish third in 29.98.<\/p>\n Ohio State’s\u00a0Jacob Eismann\u00a0<\/strong>won a close men’s 50 back race, powering home to win the event in 26.35. His time during finals was half a second faster than his morning swim.<\/p>\n RJ Kondalski<\/strong>, who will head off to Ohio State this fall, finished second in 26.45 while his future teammate\u00a0Colin McDermott\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 26.75.<\/p>\n A day after winning the women’s 200 back, Ohio State’s\u00a0Mikayla Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>found herself with the gold medal again, this time in the 200 free. She dropped half a second from her previous best time to win in a final time of 2:04.03.<\/p>\n Big Ten rival\u00a0Katie Duggan\u00a0<\/strong>of Club Wolverine dropped well over a second from her prelims swim to take the silver in 2:04.53 while Ohio State’s\u00a0Kerrigan Vargo\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the bronze in 2:04.61.<\/p>\n Cincinnati Marlins\u2019\u00a0Justin Grender\u00a0<\/strong>added a win in the men’s 200 free to his runner-up finish in the 50 free last night.\u00a0Grender, who will swim for Virginia this upcoming fall, knocked off over two seconds from this morning to post a final time of 1:52.41.<\/p>\n He had to hold off a charging\u00a0Ryan Vandermeulen\u00a0<\/strong>of Ohio State who took a close second in 1:52.64. EGRA\u00a0Christian Bart\u00a0<\/strong>swam a lifetime best by nearly six seconds to place third in 1:53.25.<\/p>\n Club Wolverine’s\u00a0Claire Maiocco\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the women’s 100 fly, winning the event by two seconds. She posted a new lifetime best of 1:01.39 for the victory.<\/p>\n Firestone Akron\u2019s\u00a0Morgan Waggoner\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to second in 1:03.37 while PHST\u00a0Gabrielle Brust\u00a0<\/strong>took a close third in 1:03.42.<\/p>\n Cincinnati Marlins\u2019\u00a0Aaron Taske\u00a0<\/strong>won a competitive men’s 100 fly final, getting his hands to the wall first in 55.02.\u00a0His time of 54.95 was a personal best by nearly two seconds.<\/p>\n Ohio State’s\u00a0Henrique Painhas\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 55.62 while his teammate\u00a0Alex Dillman<\/strong>\u00a0was right behind him to place third in 55.65.<\/p>\n Ohio State’s\u00a0Natalia Jaspeado\u00a0<\/strong>stood on top of the podium in the women’s 400 IM after knocking off almost six seconds from her morning swim. She stopped the clock in 4:55.64.<\/p>\n Hudson Explorer’s\u00a0Paige McCormick\u00a0<\/strong>used a strong freestyle leg to get her to the wall second in 4:56.23.\u00a0Firestone Akron’s\u00a0Jaclyn Pash\u00a0<\/strong>dropped three seconds from her prelims time to finish third in 4:49.50 as the last swimmer under the five-minute mark.<\/p>\n Swimming in a stacked field among talented college swimmers, three club swimmers swept the podium. Taking first place was Firestone Akron’s\u00a0Jack Saum<\/strong>, who swam a six-second lifetime best of 4:31.42 to win the event by three seconds.<\/p>\n Fifteen-year-old\u00a0Alex Podrez\u00a0<\/strong>shaved off a few tenths to finish second overall in 4:34.43 while\u00a0Lakeview’s\u00a0Mark<\/strong>\u00a0Lang<\/strong>, who is committed to swim for Kenyon, posted a best time of 4:36.76 for third.<\/p>\n Ohio State’s\u00a0Taylor Petrak\u00a0<\/strong>(56.91),\u00a0Freya Rayner,\u00a0<\/strong>Vargo (58.23) and\u00a0Devin Landstra\u00a0<\/strong>(57.73) won the women’s 4×100 relay by well over three seconds in a time of 3:51.04.<\/p>\n Firestone Akron raced to second in 3:54.77 and Club Wolverine finished third in 3:59.14.<\/p>\n Ohio State’s\u00a0Vandermeulen (51.93),\u00a0Michael Lynch\u00a0<\/strong>(52.18),\u00a0Carson Burt\u00a0<\/strong>(52.81) and\u00a0Mateo Chavez\u00a0<\/strong>(51.14) combined to win the day’s final event in 3:28.06.<\/p>\n Cincinnati Marlins finished second in 3:29.36 while Ohio State B took third in 3:31.15.<\/p>\n Prelims for the third day of competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. EST.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It was a fast second day of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Series \u2013 Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio.
