THE fourth day of racing came to a conclusion at the Australian Short Course Championships as plenty of strong times were posted this evening.  <\/p>\n<p><b>FINALS<\/B><br \/>\nBobby Hurley continued his strong meet this week, racing to a 23.49 to win the men&#039;s 50 back.  That performance would have put him fourth in the world last year in the event, and scared his Australian mark of 23.24 set in 2008.  Ben Treffers touched second in 23.83, clipping Ashley Delaney (23.84) for silver in the sprint backstroke event.  <\/p>\n<p>Samantha Marshall and Sarah Katsoulis provided an exciting finish to the women&#039;s 100 breast as the two deadheated with matching 1:06.42s to share the title.  Sally Foster wound up a close third in 1:06.79, edging Lorna Tonks (1:06.96) for the podium. <\/p>\n<p>Joseph Carty raced to victory in the men&#039;s 50 fly with a 23.44, while Ben Lindsay clinched second in 23.56.  Christopher Wright wound up third in 23.64, just ahead of Phil Butcher (23.69). Kotuku Ngawati led a threeway 2:10 finish in the women&#039;s 200 IM with a 2:10.17 for the win.  Blair Evans placed second in 2:10.46, while Ellen Fullerton earned third in 2:10.62. <\/p>\n<p>Ngawati returned to the win column once again as the leadoff of the triumphant women&#039;s 400 free relay.  Melbourne&#039;s Ngawati, Marieke Guehrer, Hayley Baker and Celeste Astorino won the freestyle relay in a 3:43.66 with Ngawati turning in a 56.98 leadoff. <\/p>\n<p>Katherine Downie was listed first in the women&#039;s 50 free multi-class finale with a 29.17, while Grant Patterson was listed first in the men&#039;s 50 free multi-class with a 53.51. Amanda Fowler was listed first in the women&#039;s 100 breast multi-class with a 1:23.05, while Patterson was listed first in another event with a 2:18.61 in the men&#039;s 100 breast multi-class.<\/p>\n<p><b>SEMIFINALS<\/b><br \/>\nRachel Goh and Grace Loh continued to battle in the women&#039;s backstroke events.  Goh cleared Loh, 27.32 to 27.48, to snare the top seed in the women&#039;s 50 back this evening.  Holly Barratt qualified third in 27.52. <\/p>\n<p>Cameron McEvoy turned in a strong 47.23 in the men&#039;s 100 free semis, while Kyle Richardson touched second in 47.54.  Tommaso D&#039;Orsogna qualified third in 47.69. Olivia Halicek followed up with a 24.61 in the women&#039;s 50 free semis, while Brittany Elmslie took second in 24.69.  Alexandra Purcell claimed the third seed in 24.72. <\/p>\n<p>Brianna Throssell raced to a 58.61 for the top seed in the women&#039;s 100 fly, while Elmslie doubled up with a second-seeded 58.87.  Nicole Mee rounded out the top three in 59.12. Kenneth To threw down a 52.32 to lead the way in the men&#039;s 100 IM semis, while D&#039;Orsogna also doubled with a second-seeded 53.67.  Sam Beinke posted a third-seeded time of 54.53. <\/p>\n<p>Christian Sprenger ripped off a 27.27 for the lead in the men&#039;s 50 breast, while Nikolas Pregelj placed second in 27.49.
