TIANJIN, China, September 14. WITH superstar Sun Yang taking the day off from competition, two other Olympians were able to shine today at the Chinese University long course championships.<\/p>\n
Tang Yi, who took bronze in the 100 freestyle at the London Olympics, won that event today in 55.03. Tang placed third in the Olympic final with a 53.44. Not far behind in second was Guo Junjun with a 55.81 and Wang Shijia in third with a 55.97.<\/p>\n
Zhao Jing, who helped China win bronze in the 400 medley relay in 2008 and is the reigning 100 backstroke world champion, won the 50 backstroke today in 28.10. The time makes her the third-fastest Chinese woman in the event for 2012, behind the efforts of Fu Yuanhui (27.95) and Gao Chang (28.07). Zhao's time puts her 10th in the world in the event. Placing second today was Fu, just a fingernail behind with a 28.11, and Luan Xiaoxuan, who placed third with a 28.84.<\/p>\n
In other events, Zhiwu Lu took gold in the men's 100 freestyle with a 49.50, just ahead of Shi Tengfei's second-place time of 49.82.<\/p>\n
Li Xiang took the men's 200 breaststroke title with a 2:12.12, fending off a tough battle by second-place finisher Huang Chao, who swam a 2:12.23.<\/p>\n
Liu Jiao won the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:27.84, using an explosive final 50 meters to pass Shi Jinglin, who placed second with a 2:28.04. Zhang Ying took third with a 2:33.34.<\/p>\n
The men's 50 backstroke featured a win by 100 backstroke champion Cheng Feiyi, who swam a 25.21. The time is just .03 off his best of the year, which he swam at the April nationals to rank 13th in the world. Sun Xiaolei placed second with a 25.75.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
