{"id":319436,"date":"2018-07-17T18:29:07","date_gmt":"2018-07-18T01:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=319436"},"modified":"2018-07-17T18:29:07","modified_gmt":"2018-07-18T01:29:07","slug":"bowling-green-head-swim-coach-matthew-ense-arrested-in-marijuana-related-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bowling-green-head-swim-coach-matthew-ense-arrested-in-marijuana-related-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"Bowling Green Head Swim Coach Matthew Ense Arrested in Marijuana-Related Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <em>The Blade<\/em>, a daily newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, Bowling Green State University Head Swimming &amp; Diving Coach <strong>Matthew Ense<\/strong> was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors on July 16, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>He has since been put on administrative leave at Bowling Green.\u00a0\u201cBowling Green State University has high expectations for its employees, at work, and in the community,\u201d a university spokesman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toledoblade.com\/Police-Fire\/2018\/07\/17\/BGSU-swim-and-dive-coach-arrested.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in a statement<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cWe were made aware today of the weekend arrest of Matthew Ense, head swimming and diving coach, and are reviewing the facts. Pending the outcome of our investigation, Coach Ense has been placed on administrative leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The charges include: tampering with evidence, disrupting an emergency communication, obstructing justice and possession of marijuana.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Blade<\/em> article cites a highway patrol report that gave details of the arrest. According to the report, Ense&#8217;s vehicle was stopped along I-475. Further police reports stated that he was inside the car with his girlfriend, whose phone he threw out the window to stop her from calling 911. Ense then allegedly consumed an edible containing marijuana in order to hide it from the police.
