PHOENIX, Arizona, September 11. JUST one day after the announcement that he would be joining TSE Consulting in their sports performance division, Bob Bowman's first assignment as consultant is to participate in British Swimming's review of athlete performance at the 2012 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
British Swimming announced Bowman's appointment to the review panel today, joining open water athlete Thomas Lurz, rugby expert Conor O'Shea, British Swimming Management Board member Craig Hunter and British national team director Michael Scott.<\/p>\n
While Lurz's job will be to review the open water performance and O'Shea will tackle coaching, sport science and sport medicine, British Swimming did not divulge Bowman's specific task on the panel, only to say that “he is expected to share his expertise and best practice advice with the panel.”<\/p>\n
The panel has been created to examine the reasons behind Great Britain's subpar medal count in London, and come up with solutions to use for Rio 2016. The team grabbed three medals in London (one silver, two bronze), while publicly expecting at least six in the lead-in to the Games.<\/p>\n
Bowman has been a part of three USA Olympic coaching staffs (2004, 2008, 2012) and helped guide his most famous athlete, Michael Phelps, to become the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time. As an assistant coach in London, Bowman guided the American men's team to its best medal count since the 1984 Games, which was helped by the absence of the Russians and East Germans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
