TOKYO, Japan, September 9. AT the Japanese Inter University Championships this weekend in Tokyo, Kenta Ito downed the Japanese record in the men's 50 free. Meanwhile, a handful of meet records also fell during the three-day meet in Japan.<\/p>\n
On night one, Ito raced to a winning time of 22.05 in the splash-and-dash. That swim eclipsed the previous record of 22.11 shared by Shinri Shioura from this meet last year and Masayuki Kishida from the 2010 long course national championships. Ito is now tied with Neil Walker and James Roberts for 54th all time in the sprint freestyle event. Ito also shot down the 100 free meet record with a time of 48.70, making him the fastest Japanese male in the world this year. <\/p>\n
In other competition, Yosuke Miyamoto downed the meet record in the men's 400 free with a 3:49.21, pushing himself to fourth in the nation this year behind Fumiya Hidaka (3:48.21), Kosuke Hagino (3:48.61) and Syo Sotodate (3:49.17). <\/p>\n
Yosuke Mori earned the meet record in the men's 200 IM with a 1:59.43, moving to fourth in the nation this year. Hagino (1:57.35), Ken Takakuwa (1:58.20) and Daiya Seto (1:58.83) are the only that have been swifter.
