{"id":319005,"date":"2018-07-14T15:47:44","date_gmt":"2018-07-14T22:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=319005"},"modified":"2018-07-14T15:49:05","modified_gmt":"2018-07-14T22:49:05","slug":"olivia-rosendahl-katrina-young-take-silver-on-day-two-of-madrid-grand-prix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olivia-rosendahl-katrina-young-take-silver-on-day-two-of-madrid-grand-prix\/","title":{"rendered":"Olivia Rosendahl, Katrina Young Take Silver on Day Two of Madrid Grand Prix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Competition continued for Team USA at the Madrid Grand Prix as <strong>Olivia Rosendahl<\/strong> (Los Angeles, Calif.\/Evanston, Ill.) and <strong>Katrina Young<\/strong> (Shoreline, Wash.\/Tallahassee, Fla.) captured the silver medal in the women\u2019s 10-meter synchro. <strong>Grayson Campbell<\/strong> (Vienna, Va.\/Austin, Texas) and <strong>Greg Duncan<\/strong> (Oakton, Va.) finished eighth and ninth overall in the men\u2019s 3-meter. <strong>Murphy Bromberg<\/strong> (Bexley, Ohio\/Austin, Texas) and <strong>Amy Cozad Maga\u00f1a<\/strong> (Indianapolis, Ind.) advanced to the women\u2019s 10-meter platform finals after placing second and third in their semifinal group.<\/p>\n<p>Rosendahl and Young scored 302.46 points <span data-term=\"goog_423047139\">Saturday<\/span>, just 3.66 points shy of China\u2019s<strong> Jiao Jingjing<\/strong> and <strong>Zhang Xiaotong<\/strong>, who clinched the gold medal. The American pair began competition at second place following a reverse \u00bd pike for 45.60 points, 3.6 points behind Jiao and Zhang. They held their spot in the next round after a back \u00bd pike scored Rosendahl and Young 48.00 points. In the third round, the duo moved up to first place with an inward 3 \u00bd tuck for 72.00 points. China was able to take back the top spot in the fourth round. Rosendahl and Young held on to second place, ending the finals with their strongest dive, a back 2 \u00bd somersaults with 1 \u00bd twists for 72.96 points to seal their silver medals. Macao China\u2019s <strong>Sut Chan Leong<\/strong> and<strong> Sut In Leong<\/strong> placed third with 193.89 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a pleasure coaching all these divers,\u201d coach Abel Sanchez said. \u201cOur hearts fill with pride every time they\u2019re on the podium. They gave China a run for their money and it was a close and exciting finals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Campbell placed eighth overall after scoring 356.60 points to finish fifth in the men\u2019s 3-meter semifinal A. He started out in fourth place when a front 3 \u00bd pike scored 65.10 points. Campbell remained at fourth in the second round but slipped to fifth in the third round after a missed reverse 2 \u00bd pike for 40.50 points. Campbell held on to fifth place for the rest of competition and had his strongest dive in the fifth round with a reverse 1 \u00bd somersaults with 3 \u00bd twists for 73.50 points. China\u2019s <strong>Liu Chengming<\/strong> led Campbell by 19.3 points for fourth place.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan competed in semifinal B group in the men\u2019s 3-meter, where he ended competition fourth in his group and ninth overall with 342.85 points Despite not advancing to the finals, Duncan began competition strong after a front 3 \u00bd pike for 68.20 points put the Virginia native at second. The diver struggled in the second and third rounds as he missed a back 2 \u00bd pike and a reverse 3 \u00bd tuck to drop fifth and then sixth. In the fifth round Duncan was able to move back to fifth place when a reverse 1 \u00bd somersaults with 3 \u00bd twists scored 68.25 points. He moved up to fourth place in the final round after a front 2 \u00bd somersaults with 2 twists for 71.40 points, just 24.80 points shy of France\u2019s Alexis Jandard and a spot to compete in the finals.<\/p>\n<p>Both Bromberg and Maga\u00f1a competed in the semifinal B group of the women\u2019s 10-meter finals where they scored 320.75 points and 298.50 points to advance to <span data-term=\"goog_423047140\">Sunday\u2019s<\/span> finals. Maga\u00f1a began competition at second following her strongest dive, a back 2 \u00bd somersaults with 1 \u00bd twists for 67.20 points, while Bromberg started at third after an inward 3 \u00bd tuck scored 57.60 points. Bromberg and Maga\u00f1a held their spots in the second round, before Bromberg moved up to second in the third round on a back 3 \u00bd tuck for 84.15 points, her best dive of the day. Maga\u00f1a slipped to third on a back 3 \u00bd tuck that resulted in 59.40 points. Bromberg and Maga\u00f1a held on to their spots in the final two rounds, while Zhang placed first with 346.85 points.<\/p>\n<p>The Madrid FINA Grand Prix continues <span data-term=\"goog_423047141\">Sunday<\/span> with Bromberg and Maga\u00f1a competing in the women\u2019s 10-meter finals. Campbell and Duncan will return to the boards as they compete in the men\u2019s 3-meter synchro finals. <strong>Alison Gibson<\/strong> (Austin, Texas) and <strong>Krysta Palmer<\/strong> (Carson City, Nev.\/Reno, Nev.) will dive in the women\u2019s 3-meter synchro finals. The FINA Grand Prix can be watched live on FINA TV and on La Liga 4 Sports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brooke Schultz<\/strong> (Fayetteville, Arkansas) clinched the bronze medal for Team USA in Friday\u2019s women\u2019s 3-meter finals on day one of the Madrid FINA Grand Prix, while <strong>Alison Gibson<\/strong> (Austin, Texas) finished sixth in the same event. <strong>Zachary Cooper<\/strong> (Greenwood, Ind.\/Miami, Fla.) and <strong>Jacob Cornish<\/strong> (Honolulu, Hawaii\/Austin, Texas) placed fourth and fifth in the men\u2019s 10-meter platform finals.<\/p>\n<p>Schultz, who won the silver medal in last weekend\u2019s Bolzano FINA Grand Prix, gave Team USA its first medal after scoring 312.70 points for third place in the women\u2019s 3-meter final, edging Holland\u2019s Inge Jansen by 3.20 points. China\u2019s Chen Yiwen scored <strong>342.90 points <\/strong>for gold. Schultz began the finals in a three-way tie for second place after a front 2 \u00bd somersaults with one twist scored her 63.00 points. In the second round Schultz remained up to second following her most successful dive, a front 3 \u00bd pike for 68.20 points, just 2.30 points behind China\u2019s <strong>Huang<\/strong> <strong>Xiaohui<\/strong>. Schultz dropped to third in the next round as Xiaohui maintained her 2.30 point lead over Schultz and Chen jumped up to first place. Schultz held third place in the final two rounds, while Huang took silver after finishing 25.25 points ahead of Schultz, and Chen clinched the gold. Gibson, who struggled throughout the finals, finished sixth with 242.85 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrooke did an amazing job,\u201d coach Abel Sanchez said. \u201cShe dove consistently and strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper scored 370.00 points to finish fourth in the 10-meter final, 20.40 points behind bronze medal winner Aiden Heslop of England. Tai Xiaohu of China won the gold medal with 462.90 points.
