{"id":318902,"date":"2018-07-13T12:35:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T19:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=318902"},"modified":"2018-07-13T12:35:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T19:35:41","slug":"hobie-billingsley-diagnosed-with-myasthenia-gravis-recovering-in-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hobie-billingsley-diagnosed-with-myasthenia-gravis-recovering-in-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Hobie Billingsley Diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis; Recovering in Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four-time Olympic diving coach<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?s=hobie+billingsley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0<strong>Hobie Billingsley<\/strong><\/a> was recently diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that &#8220;causes weakness in the skeletal muscles which are responsible for breathing and moving parts of the body, including arms and legs.&#8221; This condition has made him unable to eat or drink anything and so he currently has a feeding tube.<\/p>\n<p>The medication that Billingsley is currently receiving will keep him in the hospital through the weekend, at which point he will likely move to a rehab facility, according to a Facebook post by his daughter\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Billingsley Bender<\/strong>. She noted that despite his condition, he has retained his sense of humor and continues to bring smiles to those around him.<\/p>\n<p>At Indiana for 30 years, he led his divers to more than\u00a0100 national titles.
