JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 The Florida State men\u2019s swimming and diving team defeated North Carolina Wilmington, 154-130, Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. Tal Stricker, Matt Wheeler and Michael Averett, who each captured two individual wins, led the Seminoles as FSU took first place in 11 events.<\/p>\n
Stricker captured the 100m breaststroke with at time of 1:07.84 and then the 200m breast with a winning mark of 2:29.89. Wheeler first won the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:11.25 and later took first place in the 200m individual medley, touching the wall at 2:17.29. Averett\u2019s first win of the day came in the 100m freestyle (55.11) before placing first in the 100m fly at 58.87.<\/p>\n
Other individual wins for the Tribe came from team captain Jonathan Kaplan (200m backstroke, 2:16.01), Alan Ribeiro (200m free, 2:01.54) and Chris Lang (100m back, 1:02.22).<\/p>\n
The Seminoles also won both relay events. The 400m medley relay squad of Lang, Wickus Nienaber, Averett and Joey Marshburn touched the wall first with a time of 4:04.17. Meanwhile, Marshburn, Nnamnse Ammons, Matt Carmen and Michael Paulus paced the competition in the 400m free relay with a winning time of 3:38.8.<\/p>\n
Diving results from today\u2019s action were not reported.<\/p>\n
The Seminoles stayed active during the winter break, competing at the Indian River Relays, which they won with a score of 44 points.<\/p>\n
