FORMER University of California, Los Angeles coach Ron Ballatore, who passed away in April of 2012, will be inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame on October 13, 2012. Ballatore was informed of his induction into the Hall of Fame in early April of this year, several weeks before he passed, at age 71, following a long battle against bone cancer. <\/p>\n<p>Ballatore had a wildly successful coaching career. The three-time PAC-10 Coach of the Year was the UCLA Bruins&#039; head coach for 16 seasons, leading the men to an impressive 109-51 dual meet record. In 1982, he successfully coached UCLA men to an NCAA Championship. After the program was discontinued following its 1993-94 season, Ballatore coached at Brown for two years, eventually ending his coaching career with a winning dual meet record at the University of Florida from 1996-99. Over the course of his collegiate coaching career, his athletes set 11 American and NCAA records, and several world records.  <\/p>\n<p>Outside of college athletics, Ballatore was greatly involved in USA Swimming. He served on the coaching staff of five Olympics, including Peru 1968, Ecuador 1972, Israel 1976, Los Angeles 1984 and South Korea 1988. Ballatore additionally coached U.S. teams in three World Championships and the 1975 Pan American Games.
