GREG Meehan is moving across the San Francisco Bay after four years coaching the men&#039;s swim team at UC-Berkeley to Stanford, where he&#039;ll now be the head coach for the women&#039;s team. Yes, Cal and Stanford are intense rivals, but at least Meehan won&#039;t have to compete against his former swimmers or his former boss Dave Durden. Meehan has been head coach before, when he coached the University of the Pacific&#039;s men&#039;s and women&#039;s teams.<\/p>\n<p>The United States wrapped up the junior Pan Pacific championships with wins in the 10K open water swims. David Heron, who comes from the distance-based program at Mission Viejo, won the men&#039;s race by 23 seconds over Canada&#039;s Zach Burns. Janardan Burns, also from Mission Viejo, placed third. Becca Mann won the women&#039;s race by 18 seconds over Australia&#039;s Emily Seymour and American teammate Rachel Zilinskas.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain announced shortly after the conclusion of the swimming competition at the Olympics that a committee would be formed to look into why the host country only won three medals, none of which were gold in the pool. This morning, British Swimming announced that Thomas Lurz, an open water star for Germany, will help the Brits look into its open water program, while Conor O&#039;Shea will analyze the team performance from a sport science, coaching and sport medicine standpoint. British Swimming national performance director Michael Scott is also set to be a part of the panel.
