STANFORD, California, August 27. STANFORD announced via a Twitter post this evening that Greg Meehan, the Associate Head Coach of the two-time NCAA champion California men's team has been hired as the head women's swimming coach of the Cardinal.<\/p>\n
“Proud to announce that Greg Meehan is our new head coach. #gocard #welcometothefamily,” Stanford women's swimming tweeted this evening.<\/p>\n
Meehan is making a rivalry jump going from California to Stanford. However, since both teams are separate, Meehan will not be coaching directly against his former Golden Bear swimmers, but will now be matched up against Cal's Teri McKeever.<\/p>\n
Meehan was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Cal men's team in Sept. 2011, and was an integral part of Cal's two NCAA titles and a runner-up finish in 2010. Prior to joining the California staff in April 2008, Meehan had served as the head coach of the men's and women's teams at the University of Pacific. He coached there from 2005-08, leading the women to a second-place Big West Conference finish in 2006-07, and the men to a trio of fourth-place finishes. In sum, Meehan was accountable for 13 school records and three conference records, with seven swimmers making NCAAs at Pacific. He also has been part of an international staff as manager for Team USA at the 2007 World University Games.<\/p>\n
Before Pacific, Meehan was an assistant at UCLA from 2001-05, including a Pacific 10 title in 2003 and a seventh-place effort at NCAAs in 2004. He also served as an assistant for the women's team at Princeton from 1999-2001.
