SAO PAULO, Brazil, August 23. THE swift short course swimming kept on coming during the Jose Finkel Trophy meet in Sao Paulo, Brazil this week. <\/p>\n
Joanna Maranhao kept up her strong meet thus far, this time charting a 2:08.09 in the women's 200 fly to set the meet record. Her previous meet standard had been a 2:08.85 from the 2010 edition. Daiene Dias placed a distant second in 2:12.65, while Larissa Cieslak earned third in 2:13.19. <\/p>\n
Etiene Medeiros topped the women's 50 backstroke event in 26.94, setting a meet standard in the process. That swim bested her previous top time of 27.12, and moved her to a 29th place time in the all time rankings. Fabiola Molina, who owns the South American record with a 26.61, took second in 27.28. Natalia Diniz picked up third in 28.08. <\/p>\n
Guilherme Guido, who posted a South American record in the men's 50 back with a 23.31 during prelims, nearly replicated his swim in the finale with a winning time of 23.38. Daniel Orzechowski touched second in 23.87, while Fabio Santi finished third in 24.42. Kaio Almeida clipped Thiago Pereira in the men's 200 fly, 1:52.44 to 1:52.56, just missing Almeida's meet record of 1:52.12 from 2010. Leonardo De Deus wound up third in 1:55.01. <\/p>\n
Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato snared the women's 100 IM title in 1:02.49, while Julyana Matheus placed second in 1:02.68. Ana Azambuja picked up third in 1:03.43. Thiago Pereira bounced back from the second-place finish in the 200 fly to win the men's 100 IM in 52.64, a bit off his South American record of 52.25 that he set during competition earlier in the day. Henrique Rodrigues touched second in 53.65. Tiago Teixeira finished third in 53.81. <\/p>\n
In relay action, Manuella Lyrio, Inge Dekker, Carolina Bilich and Femke Heemskerk raced to a 7:56.32 to win the women's 800 free relay title, and set a meet record in the process. Meanwhile, Thiago Teixeira, Fernando Do Santos, Joao Amorim and Thiago Pereira also clocked a meet record with a 7:06.91 to win the men's 800 free relay. <\/p>\n
Larissa Oliveira topped the women's 100 free semis in 53.97, while Graciele Hermann (54.24) and Tatiana Lemos (54.51) wound up second and third. Cesar Cielo cruised to the top seed in the men's 100 free with a 47.42 in semis. Nicolas Oliveira (47.56) and Fernando Pires (47.82) placed second and third. <\/p>\n
Juliana Marin led the way in the women's 50 breast semis with a 31.70, while Ana Carvalho posted a second-seeded 31.74. Tatiane Sakemi claimed third in 32.33.
