The first night of the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series from Columbus, Ohio will feature just seven heats of the men’s and women’s 1500 free.\u00a0Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>is not in attendance after\u00a0setting a world record<\/a>\u00a0in Indianapolis in May. The women’s race will also not be featuring\u00a0Leah Smith<\/strong>. The top seed is\u00a0Becca Mann\u00a0<\/strong>who will be joined in the top seeded heat by\u00a0Chile’s\u00a0Kristel Kobrich<\/strong>, Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Ashley Neidigh\u00a0<\/strong>and Arizona State’s\u00a0Cierra Runge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The men’s race will also feature some good international names with\u00a0Marcelo Acosta\u00a0<\/strong>out of El Salvador and the University of Louisville, as well as\u00a0Anton Ipsen\u00a0<\/strong>who represents NC State and Denmark. The top American is\u00a0Zane Grothe\u00a0<\/strong>who won the 1500 at the last two Pro Swim Series meets.<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500<\/h3>\n

Wolfpack Elite’s Anton Ipsen<\/strong>\u00a0dominated the men’s race in a time of 15:07.40. The swim bettered his season best of 15:09.20 from this year’s Charlotte UltraSwim last month. It also moves him up four spots in the world rankings, where he now sits just outside the top twenty.<\/p>\n

Pro Swim Series star Zane Grothe<\/strong> was well off the leader as well as his best time of 15:05.31 from the TYR Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis. He was not too far behind Ipsen through around the halfway point, but Ipsen nearly even-split the race going 7:33.28-7:34.12.<\/p>\n

Louisville duo Marcelo Acosta<\/strong> (15:32.29) and T.C. Smith<\/strong> (15:54.87) claimed the next two spots. Ohio State Swim Club also had two swimmers in the top eight as Austin Mortimer<\/strong> (16:04.84) took sixth and Spencer Tussing<\/strong> finished eighth (16:12.92). CATS’ Tyler Jones<\/strong> (16:01.73) and Toby Van Dyke<\/strong> (16:10.81) placed fifth and seventh, respectively.<\/p>\n
