{"id":316682,"date":"2018-07-02T11:15:26","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T18:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=316682"},"modified":"2018-07-02T11:16:24","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T18:16:24","slug":"michigan-swimming-and-diving-welcomes-three-transfers-for-2018-19-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-swimming-and-diving-welcomes-three-transfers-for-2018-19-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Swimming and Diving Welcomes Three Transfers For 2018-19 Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANN ARBOR, Mich. &#8212; University of Michigan swimming and diving head coach <strong>Mike Bottom<\/strong> announced on Monday (July 2) the additions of transfers <strong>Dylan Boyd<\/strong> (Sydney, Australia\/Arizona State University), <strong>Spencer Carl<\/strong> (Holland, Mich.\/University of Louisville) and <strong>Leo Zabudkin<\/strong> (Frankfurt, Germany\/Wingate University) to the team&#8217;s roster for the 2018-19 season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re very excited to add these three men to our program,&#8221; said Bottom. &#8220;All three swimmers are versatile, have high-level competitive experiences and add depth to our team. What&#8217;s most exciting is they all have a drive to get better for themselves and to score points for Michigan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Dylan Boyd<\/h3>\n<p>Freestyle | Sydney, Australia (Arizona State)<\/p>\n<p>In his one year in Tempe, Boyd was an All-America Honorable Mention, swimming the anchor leg of Arizona State&#8217;s 800-yard freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships. At the Pac-12 Championships, Boyd was 14th in the 500-yard freestyle, 19th in the 200-yard freestyle and 20th in the 200-yard butterfly. He primarily trains mid-distance freestyle and butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Australia, Boyd attended Lake Forest (Illinois) High School in 2016 and was the Illinois High School State champion in the 200-yard freestyle. He then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he attended Ravenscroft High School and trained with the YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd will have three years of eligibility remaining.<\/p>\n<p>Top Times (SCY): 200 FR (1:36.57), 500 FR (4:21.11), 200 FL (1:46.55)<\/p>\n<h3>Spencer Carl<\/h3>\n<p>Butterfly\/Freestyle | Holland, Mich. (Louisville\/West Ottawa)<\/p>\n<p>A native of western Michigan, Carl comes to Michigan after spending his freshman season at Louisville. He swam in four dual meets and in last December&#8217;s USA Swimming Winter Nationals for the Cardinals. As a senior at West Ottawa High School, Carl won the MHSAA D-I state title in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. In long-course, he was a Speedo Junior Nationals qualifier, making the final in both the 100-meter butterfly (sixth) and 200-meter butterfly (seventh) in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Carl will have three years of eligibility remaining.<\/p>\n<p>Top Times (SCY): 200 FR (1:36.31), 500 FR (4:26.89), 100 FL (47.61), 200 FL (1:44.10)<\/p>\n<h3>Leo Zabudkin<\/h3>\n<p>Breaststroke | Frankfurt, Germany (Wingate)<\/p>\n<p>Zabudkin transfers to Michigan after spending two years at Wingate University. He is a two-time NCAA D-II Championships qualifier, earning All-America Honorable Mentions in the 200-yard breaststroke and on Wingate&#8217;s 200-yard medley relay as a freshman in 2017.
