DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke men's and women's swimming and diving teams have accepted 10 recruits for early decision to attend the university in the fall of 2002, as announced by assistant coach Whitney Greene Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Joining the Blue Devils on the men's side will be Andy Storm (Lewisburg,
\nPenn.) and Alex Bates (Hinsdale, Ill.). Joining the women's squad will be Katie Ness (Worthington, Ohio), Casey Bauer (San Antonio, Texas), Julie Granger (Duluth, Ga.), Katie Harrington (Phoenix, Az.), Julia Lewis (Allison Park, Penn.), Nora Stupp (St. Louis, Mo.), Alison Sundberg (Tiburon, Calif.) and Caroline Kluczkowski (Boca Raton, Fla.).<\/p>\n
"We are thrilled to have so many talented swimmers commit early decision to Duke," said Greene. "The class of 2006 is already shaping up to be an extremely deep one for us since it covers the entire spectrum of events. To have a senior national-level swimmer (Katie Ness) commit to us when we have no scholarship money to offer her is something we're especially proud of."<\/p>\n
On the men's side, Storm, of Lewisburg Area High and the Bloomsburg YMCA, was third at Y-Nationals in the Spring of 2001 in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.70). Storm has other personal bests of 58.68 in the 100 breaststroke and 1:56.50 and 4:06.67 in the 200 and 400 IM.<\/p>\n
Bates, who is a student at Hinsdale Central and a member of the Hinsdale Swim Club, has personal records of 21.59 in the 50, 47.14 in the 100 and 1:45.90 in the 200 freestlye.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, Ness, who attends Thomas Worthington High and was a member of the Worthington Swim Club, was a Senior National Qualifier in the 100 butterfly (55.99) and has other personal bests of 57.63 in the 100 backstroke, 2:04.58 in the 200 IM and 51.1 in the 100 freestyle (relay split).<\/p>\n
Bauer, a future graduate of Ronald Reagan High School and a member of Alamo Area Aquatics, has personal bests of 1:06.33 and 2:23.89 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 2:07.93 in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n
Granger, of Duluth High School and Dynamo Swim Club, has personal bests of 58.36 and 2:03.94 in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 2:08.00 and 4:26 in the 200 and 400 IM.<\/p>\n
Harrington, who goes to Xavier College High School and swims for the Arizona Marlins Club, has bests of 5:03.23 in the 500 freestyle, 10:26 in the 1000 and 17:25 in the 1650.<\/p>\n
Stupp, a future graduate of Mary Institute & St. Louis Country Day and a member of Rockwood Swim Club, swam bests of 2:07.01 and 4:30.50 in the 200 and 400 IM, 1:54.29 and 5:06.36 in the 200 and 500 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Sundberg, a student at Redwood High School and a member of the Marin Pirates, has personal bests of 24.12 in the 50, 52.12 in the 100 and 1:56.67 in the 200 freestyle. She is the sister of Blue Devil freshman Chris Sundberg.<\/p>\n
Lewis, a student-athlete at Hampton High School and a member of Team Pittsburgh, recorded bests in the 50 (24.50) and 100 freestyle (53.56), and the 100 (1:00.65) and 200 backstroke (2:10.70).<\/p>\n
Kluczowski, who attends Pine Crest School and competes for Pine Crest Swim Club, recorded bests of 25.7 and 55.1 in the 50 and 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
