CSUN\u00a0Water Polo head coach\u00a0Matt Warshaw<\/a><\/dfn><\/strong>\u00a0has announced the hiring of Candyce\u00a0Schroeder<\/strong> as the team’s assistant coach. An all-american\u00a0and champion at the international level, Schroeder joins the Matadors ahead of the 2018-19 year.<\/p>\n

“I’m excited to add Candyce to our water polo family,” said Warshaw. “She had an outstanding playing career and I’m excited to have her pass on her knowledge to the current Matadors. Between Candyce’s\u00a0two all-american\u00a0accolades and her coaching experience, I think she’ll make an immediate impact, not only at practices but in recruiting as well.”<\/p>\n

Schroeder brings club and collegiate coaching experience to CSUN. She joins the Matadors\u00a0after serving as coach of the 18U Tritons Water Polo Club in\u00a0her hometown of San Clemente, Calif.<\/p>\n

In 2016-17, she took on the role of coach and player at Durham University in the United Kingdom. During the year, Schroeder served as\u00a0an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams, and helped lead both squads to the British University College Sports (BUCS) National Championship.<\/p>\n

During her stint in the UK, she also played for the Leeds Sharks of the British Water Polo National League. Schroeder led the Sharks in scoring for the 2017 season.<\/p>\n

Prior to her time overseas, Schroeder was a four-year letterwinner at Indiana University (2013-16) where she tallied 173 career goals and 71 assists. At the center position, Schroeder improved her scoring output in each season with the Hoosiers. A team captain, Schroeder scored a career-best 65 goals in her senior campaign to go with 31 steals and 45 earned ejections. Schroeder made Indiana history in 2016, scoring a school record seven goals in a win over Bucknell. A three-time All-Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) honoree, Schroeder nabbed ACWPC\u00a0All-America Honorable Mention awards in 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n

As a sophomore, Schroeder helped lead Indiana to a\u00a0CWPA\u00a0championship. The Hoosiers clinched a berth into the NCAA Tournament that season, finishing seventh at the event. Schroeder would receive NCAA All-Tournament Second Team honors after racking up seven goals and 11 earned ejections.<\/p>\n

While at Indiana, Schroeder also earned three Academic All-Big Ten awards, three CWPA\u00a0Scholar-Athlete nods and three ACWPC\u00a0All-Academic accolades.<\/p>\n

Prior to her collegiate career, Schroeder\u00a0prepped at San Clemente High School. She guided the Tritons to the 2011 CIF championship as she took home CIF Player of the Year honors. Schroeder also received league MVP, All-County Second Team and All-Southern California First Team accolades in 2011. During her prep career, she racked up two more All-CIF awards and two All-South Coast League selections.<\/p>\n

At the club level, Schroeder competed for the SET Water Polo Club where she was a three-time Junior Olympic All-American from 2008-2010.<\/p>\n

Schroeder earned a degree in psychology with a minor in speech hearing sciences from Indiana University in 2016. She also earned a master’s degree in science marketing at Durham University last December.<\/p>\n
