The first night of the 2018 Charlotte UltraSwim meet hosted the prelims and semi-finals of each of the 50 shootout events. The top 16 athletes from the prelims events moved on to the semi-finals, where the top 8 will continue on to tomorrow’s super semi-finals.<\/p>\n
For clarity’s sake, the results below showcase the top eight who will continue on to the super semi-finals.<\/p>\n
AU’s\u00a0Alyssa Tetzloff<\/strong> held off ABSC’s\u00a0Donna Blaum<\/strong> in semi-finals of the women’s 50 fly. Tetzloff claimed the top seed with a 27.23 over Blaum’s 27.27.<\/p>\n Christina Lappin<\/strong> of Gamecock Aquatics picked up third with a 27.53, while ABSC’s\u00a0Caitlin Casazza<\/strong> grabbed fourth with a 27.79.<\/p>\n SwimMAC teammatess\u00a0Sophie Lindner<\/strong> (27.90),\u00a0Katie Corbi<\/strong> (27.97),\u00a0Julia Menkhaus<\/strong> (28.00) made it through to the super semi-final round.<\/p>\n IA’s\u00a0Abigail Dolan<\/strong> rounded out the top eight with a 28.06.<\/p>\n Santiago Grassi\u00a0<\/strong>of AU turned in a top time of 24.60 in the men’s 50 fly semi-finals. ABSC’s\u00a0Camden Murphy<\/strong> and SwimMAC’s\u00a0John Walker<\/strong> joined him under the 25-second mark with times of 24.71 and 24.82.<\/p>\n AAC’s\u00a0Ryan Baker<\/strong> was fourth in semi-finals with a 25.03, just ahead of\u00a0Alvin Jiang’s<\/strong> 25.05.<\/p>\n SwimMAC’s\u00a0Boyd Poelke<\/strong> (25.23), AU’s\u00a0Mcfoster Ballard<\/strong> (25.29), and Wolfpack’s\u00a0James Bretscher<\/strong> (25.44) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n Wolfpack’s\u00a0Elise Haan<\/strong> posted the only sub-29 second time of the evening at a 28.57. Fellow Wolfpack team members\u00a0Mackenzie Glover<\/strong> (29.44) and\u00a0Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> (29.45) qualified third and fourth, while\u00a0Grace Countie\u00a0<\/strong>of the Marlins of Raleigh took second with a 29.30.<\/p>\n BLUE’s\u00a0Abigail Richter<\/strong> posted a 29.52 to qualify fifth, followed by SwimMAC’s\u00a0Madelyn Flickinger’s<\/strong> 29.70.<\/p>\n Wolfpack’s\u00a0Danika Huizinga<\/strong> and ATOM’s\u00a0Eliza Whitmire<\/strong> collected seventh and eighth with times of 29.87 and 30.03.<\/p>\n The Wolfpack made their\u00a0presence known in the men’s 50 back semi-finals, claiming the first through fourth place qualifying spots.\u00a0Justin Ress<\/strong> led the charge with the only sub-26 second time, stopping the clock at a 25.68. Teammates\u00a0Coleman Stewart<\/strong> (26.13),\u00a0Hennessey Stuart<\/strong> (26.23), and\u00a0Jacob Molacek<\/strong> (26.38) finished close\u00a0behind.<\/p>\n Duke’s\u00a0Maximillian St. George<\/strong> qualified fifth with a 26.46, while CAV’s\u00a0John Whiteside<\/strong> posted a 26.81 for sixth.<\/p>\n The Wolfpack concluded the top eight qualifiers with\u00a0Cobe Garcia<\/strong> (27.06) and\u00a0Mark McGlaughlin<\/strong> (27.23) collecting seventh and eighth.<\/p>\n Kaylee Hamblin<\/strong> of MSA collected the top seed in semi-finals of the women’s 50 breast, posting a time of 32.19.\u00a0Rachel Bernhardt<\/strong> of Gamecock Aquatics picked up a close second-place seed with a 32.36, followed closely by Wolfpack’s\u00a0Olivia Calegan<\/strong> (32.42) and YOTA’s\u00a0Jacalyn Schoening<\/strong> (32.43).<\/p>\n WAVE’s\u00a0Miikaela Fullerton<\/strong> turned in a 32.84 for fifth, while\u00a0Allyson Reiter<\/strong> took sixth with a 32.91.<\/p>\n Anna Shumate<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite and\u00a0Caitlin Casazza<\/strong> of Athen’s Bulldogs completed the qualifiers with times of 33.05 and 33.12.<\/p>\n SwimMAC teammates\u00a0Timothy Connery<\/strong> and\u00a0William Chan<\/strong> delivered a 1-2 punch in semi-finals of the men’s 50 breast with times of 28.67 and 28.88.<\/p>\n Itay Goldfaden<\/strong> of Gamecock Aquatics picked up the third-place seed with a 28.90, followed closely by PKV’s\u00a0Marko Blazevski<\/strong> (28.97) and TE’s\u00a0Austin Rednour<\/strong> (29.01).<\/p>\n Athen’s Bulldogs’\u00a0Colin Monaghan<\/strong> (29.28), SwimMAC’s\u00a0Nic Eriksson<\/strong> (29.29), and\u00a0Nils Wich-Glasen<\/strong> (29.35) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n SwimMAC sprint veteran\u00a0Madison Kennedy<\/strong> claimed the top seed in the women’s 50 free semi-finals.
