U.S. Olympic skier Bode Mille<\/strong>r’s 19-month-old daughter Emeline Miller<\/strong> drowned in a Southern California swimming pool, authorities said Monday.<\/p>\n

She died at an Orange County hospital Sunday, the day after paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive her after the drowning incident, multiple news outlets reported.<\/p>\n

“We are beyond devastated,” Miller said on an Instagram<\/a> post on Tuesday.”Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to its fullest every day.”<\/p>\n

\u200bDrowning is a leading cause of death among children, including infants and toddlers, according to healthychildren.org<\/a>. Most infant drownings occur in bathtubs and buckets. Toddlers between 1 and 4 years most commonly drown in swimming pools. However, many children in this age group drown in ponds, rivers, and lakes. It is important to know that children can drown in even one inch of water and anyone who has come close to drowning needs a medical exam.<\/p>\n

The death was under investigation, the Orange County sheriff’s office told The Associated Press.<\/p>\n
