The UNLV women’s swimming and diving team has signed a 12-member class for the 2018-19 season, head coach <\/span>Ben Loorz<\/b> announced Tuesday.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

“This class is the largest in the recent history of UNLV Women’s Swimming & Diving,” said Head Coach Ben Loorz. “We really had the opportunity to bolster our sprinting, which this class reflects. \u00a0More importantly, we feel that everyone in this class is a good fit for our program, our university, and our city. We can’t wait to begin working with these swimmers and divers, and are excited for the growth of the Rebel Family. Many of the women on this roster are going to have immediate impact at a very high level, as we aim to continue the success we had by sending two to NCAAs this year.”<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The lone transfer of the class is University of Arizona transfer, <\/span>Zohar Shikler<\/b>. The Kiryat Ono, Israel native competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 50 Free (25.38) LCM, earning her 49th in the event, and currently holds the Israeli National Record in the 50 free (25.18) LCM. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Carissa Armijo<\/b>, a Knoxville, Tennessee native, comes to the Rebels as a 2017 Winter Junior National Finalist in the 400 IM, a runner up at the 2017 Futures in the 200 Fly, and a national record holder in the 4×100 Freestyle Relay with her Tennessee Aquatics relay squad. She was the 2018 Girls Swimmer of the Year in Knoxville, and is also 2018 Summer and Winter Junior National qualifier. A strong student, she earned Scholastic All American honors all four years as well.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Julia Filippova<\/b>, a sprinter from Moscow, Russia, was a silver and bronze medalist in sprint freestyle events at the Junior Championships of Russia, a silver medalist in the relay at the Russian Championships, and a two-time winner and bronze medalist European Youth Olympic Festival (2015) in relay with the Russian Junior National Team. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels added a pair of swimmers from Arizona who both swim for the Scottsdale Aquatic Club and helped the team to the 2016 Junior National Championship team title. <\/span>Gabby Lizzul<\/b> hails from Phoenix and is a butterfly specialist, having earned Junior National cuts at both the 100 and 200 distances. Teammate <\/span>Gaby Tellez<\/b>, a Peoria native, counts among her honors: scholastic All-American, 2016-18 Speedo Sectional and State Team winners, Winter Junior National qualifier, and Summer Junior National qualifier.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming to the Rebels from Lima, Peru is <\/span>Camila Quineche<\/b>, a national champion in both the 200 Fly and 400 IM LCM. She has also been pre-selected for the 2019 Pan American Games squad from Peru. <\/span><\/p>\n

The rest of the class hails from points across the Western U.S., starting with Edgewood, Washington native <\/span>Kacey Kiuchi<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

A pair of Nevada natives come to the Rebels beginning with <\/span>Kate Rye<\/b> (Incline Village). A four-time state champion in the 50 Free, she also claimed a pair of state titles in the 100 free and is a member of the Sierra Nevada Swimming Scholastic Team. She is joined by Las Vegas native <\/span>Anita Sanguansin<\/b>. <\/span>Skylar Moore<\/b>, a native of Sitka, Alaska comes to Las Vegas from the Baranof Barracuda Swim Club while from Pleasanton, California is <\/span>Ava Haase<\/b> from the Livermore Aqua Cowboys Club. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding out the new class is diver <\/span>Gillian Ashley<\/b> from Mesa, Arizona, who won Division 1 Diver of the Year for Mountain View High School and competed at AAU Nationals.<\/span><\/p>\n
